IIRC the MSI Armour cards use the same PCB as the Gaming X which means if you're planning to go on water and want a custom board with extra phases or whatever, then the Amour is not a bad buy for that. I think Gamers Nexus did a video on it a while back. With that said, unless you're liquid nitrogen overclocking with volt mods on the board, the PCB really doesn't matter for Pascal.

I had a 2560x1600 display with a Nvidia 8800 around 2007. I tried a 4K display with a Nvidia 680 around 2013. The 2560 one I kept for 9 years until it broke, the 4K one I returned after like a week because it wasn't a good experience, more about the implementation being kind of hacky than the performance being too bad though. Stuff would randomly be stuck into the top left, or not see the full resolution, software wasn't ready for 4K back then.

RX 580 for 1080p@60 and 4k@60 for older games. Also my desktop doesn't stutter when animating window maximisation any more. 2GB of vram just wasn't enough for GNOME 3. Rust now runs at 1080p@60 with everything maxed instead of 1080p@45 with everything off.

Two 980s and two 1440p monitors. An IPS lottery 165Hz and my stalwart heavily modded korean. Currently using it with the bare unpainted panel frame, even with a bit of glue still on it.

Do 16:10 monitors still exist? Or am I gonna be on the same U2410 for another decade, because it's 16:9 24/7 wherever I look

That, but I think at this point you may just have to suck it up, unless you can dissect a screen out of one of the new iPads. Speaking as someone who used 1680x1050 for drat near a decade, 1440p is AMAZING.

Is the U2415 still around? Didn't that get an update? For 2560x, there's basically nothing, but for 1920x, Dell has made some as recently as last year

When my 2560x1600 monitor died I went to 2560x1440 because they're way cheaper and haven't missed it. Dell does (or did?) still do 16:10, but they're 1000+. The U3017 seems to be most popular in that space.

NewFatMike posted:Page 1337 on my birthday? It must be a sign. Microcenter used to have the X34 for $1000. Get someone to use their dot-edu email and you can get a discount coupon that'll take another $100 off (mine took several days presumably to get human approval, so don't leave this to the day-of). I still think the XR382CQK looks like an overall better product in some ways (physically larger and basically the native resolution of cinematic-ratio UHD content), but no GSync and it drops to 60 Hz without FreeSync, which makes it kind of a non-starter since it's impossible to drive unless you are willing to bet on Vega. Also give those 49" 32:9 monitors (CHG90 I think?) a gander, it's only 1080p resolution and it's FreeSync but it's pretty cool. Unfortunately few enough games are even coded to support 21:9 let alone 32:9 and at more extreme FOVs things will eventually start breaking without fixes from something like Flawless Widescreen. If it worked properly it would be neat as hell but I have my doubts there. Paul MaudDib fucked around with this message at 17:58 on Oct 4, 2017 |

I have a hard time spotting enemies in Overwatch sometimes on my calibrated ~24" UltraSharps for some reason. I wonder if it's a monitor detail thing, or if playing with gharish Dynamic Mode and such just makes it easier to do those things. On top of higher refresh rates, of course.
