You might also consider giving your black a "temperature," to enhance contrast and visual interest. The Tale of Painters tutorial that Zuul the Cat posted uses a lot of blue and blue-grey highlights for the black base, which tends to give a "cooler" temperature to the model. SRM (I think? It's been a while) has posted some Black Templars whose armor has a dark brown tinge, making it seem "warmer." Come to the Painting Thread for more tips! (Assuming you don't read that thread already. So there's a guy at one of the stores here who has a full 2k+ army of Sisters painted nude. The greaves, gauntlets, and shoulders were painted up as armor, with the torsos and upper legs painted in fleshtones. He was eventually banned from bringing them to the store, which is hilarious considering the time that went into them.

Sometimes I buy models off of ebay where I can't tell if it's a recast - this creates the "Schrodinger's Slap" where the sculptor is both slapped and unslapped until the model is received and inspected. In the case of some finecast models, the ambiguity is permanent.

So through a little trick I call "hating money", I have acquired some Genestealer Cultmans. I am not super interested in GSCs except insofar as they are glue that holds together Guard and Tyranids, which I am very interested in. I have 12 or so Neophytes, 20ish Acolytes, 4 abberants, and also maybe 40 mantic scifi zombies destined to be conscripts. What else should I aim for (apart from the GSC HQs) if I want to stay away from hordes and lean heavily towards big bugs and tanks?
