It's not that it wasn't well-received, it's exactly the sort of train wreck that's catnip to thread readers. It's that you found a unicorn: the r/relationships post where "you should just kill yourself" should be the consensus answer. I'm probably not the only person who typed ":murder: yourself" into a reply and then didn't post it.

But then there's a nice find of a success story to complement the original, like the right cheese with the right whine.

I had a much longer post when the forums went down, so out of phone posting and laziness, I'll just do the outline.

1. I got the reaction I expected and wanted, and my little preamble was just part of the presentation.

2. The long screed was about how I don't really blame the OP that much. A horrible situation for anyone, especially for a child. Especially for a child who watched his father figure try and kill his mother. He didn't have the tools, and so he shut down. He escaped into video games and denial and his mother suffered for it, but it should never have been his burden to bear. He's never going to get over this. Even with years of therapy there is going to be a part of him that blames himself.

With that story I always come back to one person, and that's the dad that tried to drown her. If there's a villain in this story that isn't the disease or God, it's him.

Dad did one bad thing. OP watched Mom decay and put her into a home over an extended period of time. He should probably have put her into a good care facility way before he dumped her with the lowest bidder, but even by the low standards of family-based caretakers this guy rates out at 'next-best thing to malicious'. Sure, dad sucks and the ideal outcome is a son-dad murder-suicide, but getting just one of them off the planet is a net gain.

I sincerely doubt that dad did one bad thing.

Kid was dumped in a situation he had didn't have the tools to deal with and tragedy resulted.

OP was probably depressed as hell and shutting himself away in MMOs in a desperate attempt to cope. Even if he did try to help, he was a teenager. Not really equipped to take care of a slowly dying parent.

Where the gently caress were all the adults in that story? Did his mom not have any relatives or friends to pitch in a little? It shouldn't have fallen on a goddamned sixteen year old to be a fulltime caretaker for his mom.

I have been with my partner for 6 months. He was a prince in the beginning, and now he is a devil to me. I have a 12 month lease on my apartment which is about to come to an end. I can barely pay my rent because of how badly my partner has cheated on me.

Two months ago, I found out he cheated on me. Not only that, but he used the loan money I gave him so he could buy a motorcycle to his girlfriend that he was cheating on me with and she put a downpayment on a car. Do I have any legal right to sue her or get the car? Can I sue my boyfriend to get my money back? I don't have any paperwork that proves anything, I just handed him 10k cash. I have texts that prove he cheated on me and a ten second video of him performing a sex act on his ex girlfriend. I have photographic proof that his girlfriend has a new car and I have the parking spot she uses in her apartment complex in case the police can just tow her car and give it to me. What rights do I have here?

Thank you.

You shouldn't be so hard on yourself Pick; You don't seem like an extraordinary rear end in a top hat, just like a normal rear end in a top hat.

Me [36 M] with my wife [36 F] (married a year, been together 6 years): She wants to have a gay guy friend come over and sleep in our bed and cuddle with her while I'm out of town. I got weird about it. Am I being unreasonable?

quote:

I know and met the guy. He's a nice guy. You would never guess him to be gay in any way. He and my wife clicked right away.
Anyway, we don't know him that well. We've hung out maybe 4 times. My wife asked me right out if I would care if he came over when I was out of town and slept with her. Said there was nothing wrong with cuddling with a gay man. Actually went on to say that she could have a full-on emotional relationship with someone without it being sexual (which geez kinda sounds like an emotional affair to me).
So I got weird about it. Not sure why exactly, but I'm not comfortable with another guy in my bed with my wife when I'm not there. Gay or straight. Perhaps it's worth mentioning that he was straight most of his life. Perhaps it isn't.
The thing that bothers me most is that she didn't say "Ok, thank you for sharing your boundary with me. I wont push the issue." -- She did push the issue. Argued as to why I was wrong about it. Brought up past relationships of mine when I was with "more alternative people" and called me "vanilla." The whole exchange left me seething for a myriad of reasons beyond the original discussion. I began to feel as if my feelings (even if they WERE old school or unreasonable) were Invalid. Never a good feel.
What's your take? Am I being unreasonable about the whole thing? Would you let a gay man sleep and cuddle in your bed with your wife while you weren't there? Why or why not? What if the tables were turned? For the ladies out there, would you let your husband sleep and cuddle with a gay woman while you were out of town? Thank you in advance.
tl;dr: Wife wants to have a gay guy friend come over and sleep in our bed with her while I'm out of town. I got weird about it. Am I being unreasonable?
