The best Superman stories are still rooted in that stuff. Superman is an inherently socialist character, his entire point in the post golden age 'he's just kinda whatever' stuff is 'he's an alien who fights for the best of humanity and the best of humanity just happens to be collectivization and protecting the lower class/helpless'.

Jared Leto's Joker is an indictment of neoliberalism and his relationship to Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn is a demonstration of how someone absolutely bereft of ideology has to prey on the weak and create a cult of personnality around themselves in order to gain the kind of power they get off on.

The fact that the "Dirtbag Left" didn't embrace Suicide Squad is somewhat baffling to me.

Suicide Squad isn't great for several reasons, but yeah. I've listened to several podcasts where the hosts are great at whatever it is they focus on, but when they get into reviewing films they're all mediocre at best. And the problem isn't just that they're bad, they're bad in the exact same way. It's disappointing.

Never forget that Supes helped take down the KKK back in the day.

And also that his archnemesis is a rich greedy capitalist that ends up becoming President.

I wish Green Arrow was treated more like the socialist he was back in the 70s. Also EC Comics were pretty progressive back in the 50s just look up "Judgement Day".

Seriously his iconic biggest enemy is a wealthy CEO who hates him for being a filthy outsider who dares to be beloved by the people when they SHOULD be loving him for being wealthy and powerful. Superman only thrives as a class struggle. He's a loving dopey farm boy fighting the most rich and powerful guy in his city.

Maybe I missed it but I had my favorite hippy conspiracy theorist make me realize the justification for why they're still going to call for things like Vega being a false flag under Trump. It's not about guns, remember the Earth is a Loosh Farm? This was them culling pain and souls for their dark projects like usual

No I'm not joking, this is what they believe

The real reason in the end is it's obviously a coping mechanism in an insane and chaotic world where nobody truly has the wheel yet there's no end in sight to incidents like this happening in America due to a multitude of factors. So even if Obama isn't going to take your guns anymore, it's the Deep State undermining the dumbass Special Guy or powers collecting souls or whatever you need to tell yourself to not have to realize how chaotic and weird existence is.

I liked when Superman died and then came back as energy Superman which then split into Superman Red and Superman Blue, who everybody hated, so they just had them save the world and merge back into one single Superman with the original costume, using the in-universe explanation of "oh, I don't know, I guess it's his reward from the universe for saving the world or something", personally.

Don’t. It’s loving so bad and senseless. Like, I seriously don’t understand how the DC movies get greenlit with their dogshit scripts and plots. Like... they’re gonna release a Justice League movie w/o a proper movie for The Flash or Cyborg or Aquaman. So half the main characters have zero to incredibly minor characterization prior to it. I mean, poo poo on Marvel for being popcorn poo poo or whatever but at least the plots are logical and they bother to fill out their characters.

The DC movies are peak Hollywood capitalism cashing in on decades of history of a character.
