I just used a time dilation device to sprint past a dozen armored shielded guards and smash the captain of the ship in the head with a concussive hammer to prevent the automated alarm from capturing me, then fought my way through the rest of the ship to rescue my husband, which included teleporting through armed patrols, frying turrets and shields with EMP grenades, and stealing door keys with remote electronic capture. Then when my exit route had so many guards there was no way to sneak or fight through it, I shot out a window and jumped into space and had my pod scoop me up before we suffocated.

Watching the GB quick look of the SNES Classic and Jeff thinking that Ghouls and Ghosts and Super Ghouls and Ghosts were the same game is literally killing me. I am dead now.

Can't blame 'em, I was under that same impression until a few years ago. The naming convention was always [Game] on the NES and then Super [Game] when a series moved to the SNES, so that series doing it differently threw me off.

I like that in Japanese they just added stronger intensifiers as they went (Makaimura -> Dai Makaimura -> Chou Makaimura)

You're already dead
I have been doing real well in Xenogears by abusing Elly and items, only to now be without Elly and her broken Aerods. I have had some success with using the others, though when it comes to boss fights, my options now do less than 10% damage, but finish randoms in one round. I found more strange things with items on bosses. Turns out you can make Seraphita absorb water attacks if you use red or blue star items, which are supposed to influence ether defense. An oversight. It doesn't work the same way with the others, but using star items on Dominia that would either benefit or oppose Kelvena, also impacts the healing that Dominia gets, not that you can break that full recovery counter, even with Power Crisis. You can one shot her with a XX combo if you know which elements to use, as she doesn't absorb any attack, but resists most combinations. I spent way too long finding how certain items work on that encounter and didn't bother trying out the ether combinations, which might be enough to break 5000.

Second time I beat Alpha Weltall and with Chu-Chu as the nearly worthless healbot. Chu-Chu cannot cause damage to it and I was really lucky with knocking out his ether attack several times. It might have been better to switch to Billy, but I am not using Frame HPs this game. Turns out that Alpha can attack you for up to six times if you are dodging its attacks enough times. If I wasn't so tense, I would have felt so smug about it.

I watched a video on youtube and the game is broken as gently caress while also being full of bizarre adventure game logic. No wonder I could never get past the first screen. Thank god it was a rental

I am really, really happy to hear that I was wrong about Cuphead. From the trailer and previews, I thought it would be gorgeous to look at but bad to play. All the people I know who have it (and the thread here in Games) has lead me to believe otherwise and that makes me excited :D

Any of you remember that abandoned failed kickstarter fighting game, The Chainsaw Incident?

I remembered it and I was looking through trying to find decent pics of all of the characters but the best thing I can find that shows them all is this video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bhsmOO-p580

A bunch of people who had no idea how to make a fighting game wanted some 200+ thousand dollars to make a 2D versus fighter with 28 playable characters. I'm not surprised it failed and got abandoned.

Look at those designs though lol

Thanks for the reminder, I was actually thinking I got punked by accidentally paying for this month and getting Rise of the Tomb Raider, but I was just thinking to myself "Maybe I should try Shrouded Isle" and lo and behold it's in this month's pack. :)

Having had my Switch for a little under a week now I gotta say it's a pretty freakin' great console. I love the charging dock and the way the neon joycons poke out of the sides when it's plugged in to charge. I love the UI and the little musical tones that indicate when friends are online. And beyond that I'm just really looking forward to having a console that turns all the incredible indie titles being released these days into portable games. I just finished Golf Story and really enjoyed it, but I don't know if I would have ever checked it out if I didn't have the option to chill on my sofa playing a few holes while watching some tv.

Nintendo does a really great job forging their own path in the console market and I'm really excited to see where things go from here.

That said, the social components of the Switch are classic Nintendo. I can't send a text message to someone on my friend's list? :wtc:
