The game is complete, sure. It was even released. I was (and still am) hoping they plan to continue adding some of the things they originally had planned for the game like destructable environments, keeps, and the like.

They can even charge me more for it.

And while I think the game is fine, even pretty good, as is, the last thing I would want to hear is "we are no longer working on this title, get super excited about our new far future project!"

This is for two reasons: first while already good, this game could be sooo much more and second, I'm not easily excitable.

Hate to break it to you bud, but this is pretty much what they already said months ago:

quote:

Development on Battle Brothers is concluded with today’s update – although we’ll of course continue to provide bugfixes, as necessary. We have a very good idea of the game we want to create next, and we’re enthusiastic to get started. It won’t be Battle Brothers 2, but if you enjoyed playing Battle Brothers, chances are good you’ll really enjoy our next game, too. We look forward to tell you all about it in the future. It’ll even have legs!

Pretty obviously the new challenge, whatever it is, is just a single one-off surprise thing.

All that said, I too would love if they could keep really expanding Battle Brothers because this game will always have a special place in my heart, but I absolutely cannot fault them for moving on. I've already gotten 340 hours of enjoyment out of a game I paid 20 € for, so I really wouldn't be in a position to complain even if I wanted to.

Also I am eagerly looking forward to what their next project will be. I feel like they could actually pull off some sort of Jagged Alliance-like really well.

See, I don't pay attention. I would have paid them for more content to this game, not sure about their next project. Something like Jagged-Alliance doesn't really do it for me though, because when you start talking modern warfare I take a decidedly grog leap in my tastes.

For example, I will gladly pay rear end in a top hat devs at Battlefront hundreds of dollars for Combat Mission titles and then their patches "upgrades";

:negative:

However, I won't touch the original (or new) x-com with a ten foot pole.

Doesn't stop people (my wife) from buying me these sorts of games though because, "I know you like war games and my co-worker said this is a good one!"

Anyway, I'm now sad about Battle Brothers. Was really hopeful they'd add some more dynamic world building content, sieges, and buildings which would made this game pretty god drat close to my dream mercenary game.

So can we talk about bucklers and shieldbash? I find them to be very overlooked in almost every playthrough I've seen. Early game monsters that have no range whatsoever, check. Only -4 fatigue, check. Shieldbash skill, the difference between an enemy flail from striking twice and just once, check.
Bucklers and shieldbash are really really good you guys.
Even against late game enemies; orcs, skeletons, zombies; just inaccurate fucks at range a -10 fatigue or more just seems dumb. I've been having very good results fighting these melee only enemies with bucklers equipped and enjoying +6 extra fatigue. Still gently caress gobbos though.

Each hit counts separately for Fast Adaptation. If you miss the first two targets for Reap, you already have two stacks of Fast Adaptation for the last target.

Not me, though I haven't really had a chance to look yet. This run has been kinda weird and rough going. The game keeps giving me long-rear end caravan escorts that keep getting waylaid. I'm going through tons of tools and have had to replace several brothers too, so while I've been making pretty good bank, most of it has gone into just staying afloat. Enemy groups just seem WAY more eager to chase me down, in general. Playing on Expert combat difficulty though, so I guess that could be expected. Highlight so far was getting pounced on by 22 brigands at once. Fortunately they were all just thugs and poachers so were easily routed, but the 9 goblins almost immediately after really did a number on me.

Just as a sidenote, this is the route for a 1600 crown caravan escort:

I can't help but wonder if it really hasn't occurred to anyone to build a road going south from Sommerstad.

I've toured the wilderness taking out Orc and Goblin camps hoping that they'll be replaced by Lindwurm lairs when the game spawns new ones.
So far the most noteworthy thing I found was a Goblin outpost called Shex Shex Shex, though.

Berserk (gain 4 AP on a kill) and Battle Forged (Reduce damage based on your total armor #) are the two most important imo. They're both like level 6 perks though. Also mandatory to have Rotation on atleast a couple dudes or you'll lose good men to really dumb situations when you can't get them away from the front line. The value of Take A Breath also rapidly increases after the first couple weeks and you start getting in to fights with groups larger than 12 foes.

I personally never take Nimble or Lone Wolf but those are the only two perks I avoid outright.
Adrenaline, Fast Adaptation, Crippling Strikes, and Dodge are all niche and you can safely skip them if you don't know what you're doing. Dodge (gain 15% of your initiative as defense) notably does not work in an intuitive manner-- your initiative goes down a lot based on your fatigue, so it's really good for atleast 1 round but unless you're somehow managing the fatigue that character generates the bonus rapidly diminishes.

Wizard Styles

Hieronymous Alloy's Steam guide has some basic builds that are good as a guideline because they're mostly presented as "here are some perks that are good for this bro" instead of "take these in this order".
I think it doesn't cover Duelist builds, and cleaver (or axe if you really hate shields) Duelists are pretty great, but you can generally build them like any regular Berserk bro. They really want Quick Hands, though.

Also, I fired up the game for a few minutes to check if it had spawned a Lindwurm and ran into a group of 4. It's apparently gonna take 92 hours to repair all the damaged armor but the loot is good. The Lindwurm seems like a good addition since you want to hit it with ranged weapons or polearms once its armor is broken while the game so far mostly rewarded heavily armored melee bros. No idea how challenging those fights are in general since I went in with my day 400 company of level 15-25 bros with full unique gear, so the Lindwurms never stood a chance.

e: No Lindwurm lair to be seen, though. I think if there are 7-8 Lindwurms in one they could be a challenge even for a company like mine that has beaten every crisis and cleared out the Black Monolith and the special Goblin city.

Are there any additional tricks against goblins?

I accepted a Noble contract and i need to kill a mix of skirmishers, ambushers and an overlord and shaman. I am constantly entangled and netted. I make sure to go at night but it is just an annoying, horrifying slog.

I even purchased 12 dogs to act as a screen during the initial charge, but they only last a round and i am back to being entangled.

The only real "trick" I know of against goblins is that you can abuse their absurdly high initiative to your advantage in the first round. They're so fast that every goblin will go first and they will all wait, hoping you will come into range so they can shoot you. If you then tell every one of your bros to wait, the goblins will wait again (rather than advance) and end all of their turns. You can then charge your entire squad forward four tiles. That puts you in missile range of the goblins and gives them a free round of attacks, but then once you get round to your guys' initiative on round 2 you'll be within range to charge into melee. If you don't do the waiting trick, they get two free missile rounds instead.

Against a shaman this is less effective because half your team will be entangled and won't be able to close to melee range on turn 2, but that's what you get for fighting a shaman.

Other than that, the only real tricks are to take bros with high missile defence and high melee offence, use weapons with bonuses to hit if you have to (swords are good I think, it's been a while, because goblins have thin armour so the sword's weakness against armour isn't a big deal), if you have greatsword bros with high missile defence bring them along because they can cleave right through to hit back-row missile attackers, etc., but those are all tactical things you're hopefully doing anyway along with attacking at night, they aren't really tricks per se.

Having the goblin quest reward really helps for getting to the shaman.

Bring your own nets.

Use 300+/300+ armored bros with battle-forged - a majority of skirmisher shots will end up doing 0 damage. An overseer crossbow will still hurt though.
