Medenmath posted:Prince Valiant Heh. The comic was kind of dancing around calling those men slaves, referring to this as a chance to start a new life helping their new tribe rebuild and soforth. But I think once you include human beings in your list of "spoils of war" and talk about whipping them into shape, you kind of lose your plausible deniability.

I'm glad Georgia Dunn was able to get Breaking Cat News syndicated. It was a shame when she had to quite the webcomic version because it wasn't financially sustainable.

More from my journeys through the Peanuts archives. 1951 Jan-Feb: I don't really have much to add on some of these. I just kind of like them. Charlie Brown is me and Patty is the Something Awful forums. Phrasing. One of the things that surprised me about early Charlie Brown is that he's kind of a dick. Again, just kind of like this one. Same with this one. The first appearance of Violet. She's a background character in the more modern strips but early on she's fairly prominent. Shermy and Patty are also interesting in that they're super important now but are almost nonexistent later. It's kind of sad actually. [Insert Tumblr joke here] I really love these comics that remind you just how long ago they were drawn. They really reveal both how much and how little things change over time.

That's one of the best parts about early Peanuts: all the kids are fairly equally dicks to each other, and it's genuinely funny! It's really a shame how it gradually morphs into either Snoopy Stands Around Describing Adventures or Everyone, Including the Universe, Openly Hates (Or Is At Least Cruelly Apathetic to) Charlie Brown.
