I live in the Bay. Lots of jobs here but it's insanely expensive. Thankfully my current one is kind of in the boonies so I was able to move out of Silicon Valley. The main thing to remember with GIS is you can literally work for any industry so don't be afraid to apply for things even if you aren't experienced in that particular subject. If you are capable, they will train you. Relentlessboredomm posted:If you're socially competent and can bullshit just get an MBA. I respect that but this is exactly why we need more good people in the business world. There are too many assholes and now regular people think all business opportunities are going to consume their soul. There's some genuine good that could be done in this country if the business community were filled with better people. Barring that, there are some great things you can do on your own. I'm working on a business plan with a friend for a p2p payday lending service entirely designed to give reasonable rates and gently caress over the evil payday loan industry. I've got another friend who's helping a former DoL staffer build out a plan for a coffee shop based entirely on being socially responsible with their labor force. Good poo poo exists.

Rescue crews were working frantically all night, and a lot of crews were driving right through poo poo like that. There's gonna be a ton of corpses turning up in the next few days. There were wind gusts above 60 MPH, super high fuel load, dry conditions, and although nobody is saying it in earnest yet, it's pretty suspicious how many fires started at the same time, in those conditions, with no thunderstorms to set anything off.
