I just finished my first route with the "A" ending and was wondering if there was some sorte of minimal spoiler guide on the other ones? From hearing people talk about it since release I know that Route B involves a lot of replaying until a certain point where you get to make a choice and I want to know a bit more about it so I don't miss it, plus I know nothing about the other Routes - except that apparently the actual, actual ending is Route E.

Route B doesn't have a choice to make. The point of no return is in the same place as A, when you get to the flooded city. There are only three routes. Route C is completely different and has three endings, which is very obviously signposted, and you do not need to replay all of C to get all the endings.

Oh, thanks! I was a bit confused by The Flooded City cutting some of my sidequests because there's some that I'm sure I still could not do(The Parade Defense and that one with the Level 50 Giant Robot) but I'll probably get around to do it this time. I'm not the brightest person so I'll look for something about Route C's endings when I get there anyway.

When you beat route C. You get the ability to go to any chapter of the game. So you can do those harder quests (parade) when you're better equipped if you want. That's also how you can do the various endings in route C quickly. They're super obvious btw, it's one choice that determines what you get.

Whelp, just finished this game tonight. It was kind of a lot, endings D and E are a real one-two punch when done back to back. Ending D hosed me up a lot harder than I thought it was going to after C, weirdly enough.

I got Theatrhythm for the 3DS recently, and was happy to see there were a few Nier tracks in the download store. I finally got them -- and they came with specific graphics for the songs. The Shadowlord's theme, for instance, has that room with curtains blowing in the breeze, and Devola's Song of the Ancients has you strolling through town. It's been a while now since I played Nier, and I have to admit, hearing the music again was great, and together with the visuals provoked a sense of nostalgia I wasn't expecting.

It's a great little moment when you first enter it and all the robots are doing their little dances and parades while the theme plays. It was my favorite area of the game and it was pretty tragic when (ROUTE C) you go back after the Tower is raised and they're all zombified and everything is silent.

Seeing a clip of that song and walking into that area for the first time is what led me to take the game out and finally play it after having bought it and put it unopened on a shelf for a couple months. It's pretty great. I actually wound up picking this game back up and running some sidequests yesterday, which surprised me. I usually play RPGS one of two ways, either ignoring the main quest entirely (e.g. Bethesda games), or ignoring most of the sidequests to keep the main story chugging along and never playing again (Witcher, HZD, most JRPGs). Who knows, this may be the only game in several years I've actually gone back to see and do everything.

Speaking of the LP thread, I thought I'd elaborate on one of my recent posts with less regard for spoilery stuff:I posted:I mentioned a couple pages back that I preferred the Japanese VA for one particular line read, and this is the update where it happens. After the Commander tells the duo that it is their duty to survive and the track "Crumbling Lies" begins playing, 2B pauses for a moment before shouting out in an attempt to convince the Commander to come with them. It's a heartbreaking moment. 2B is a loyal soldier of YoRHa and obviously has an enormous amount of respect for the Commander. When she has to abruptly deal with both the Commander and most of YoRHa's death all at once, 2B has a micro-freakout. The Commander reiterates her orders, and 9S manages to drag 2B over to the flight units for their escape. Automata/Yoko's route system makes this moment amazing. I kept trying to figure out what was going to happen next, and I kept guessing wrong. Immediately after B's final boss encounter, I assumed that we'd finally play as A2 and find out what she was doing during the events of A/B. A2 knows YoRHa's secret, and her struggle to figure out what to do with that knowledge would be the main drive of Route C. I was wrong. I assumed that our attack on Earth would reveal the dark side of YoRHa, and we would have to choose between abandoning YoRHa or executing the 'good machines' that had disconnected from the main network. I was wrong. When we wake up back at base, tell the Commander what happened on the ground, and she accuses us of treason, I assumed that the game was going to be about escaping from the clutches of Nazi YoRHa and reuniting with A2 in order to tell the world what actually happened on the moon. I was wrong. When we defeat the virus-infected YoRHa members in the control room and begin to escort the Commander through the Bunker, I assumed that the game was going to be about recovering from the destruction of most of YoRHa's resources. It's like when poo poo goes wrong in a spy film, and the heroes have to go underground, regroup, and eventually succeed against all odds in taking out the enemy. I was wrong. The Commander's death closes off most of the remaining 'hopeful' options for what could happen next. YoRHa is pretty well defeated after she is killed. NieR: Automata reveals that it isn't a game in which the good guys will be able to rally and win. 2B is now a soldier without an army or a cause to fight for. 9S has his feelings for 2B and little else. Our friend Pascal's peaceful village seems particularly vulnerable now that the machine overlords have flexed their true strength. The Route C credits begin the exact moment where hope begins to fade from the game. The title card finally drops about ten minutes later after the last significant source of hope is extinguished. The world is thrown into complete chaos for the remainder of the game. The world systematically kills anything else you grew to care about, often in the most tragic way possible. Routes A&B are world-building. Route C is world-destroying.
