Internet drama nobody cares about highlighting how dumb this is do not read: HBomb was making fun of a disabled person, which he'd normally be all over someone for but because that disabled person was on the other side it's okay for him to do. Bane666 has a speech impediment so he hid behind an animated skull and text-to-speech generator until he felt confident enough to start using his real voice on videos. Other people in the community had taken up this imagery, basically saying they were either supporting Bane or they too were too afraid to show their own faces but wanted to demonstrate solidarity. HBomb is also blind to the fact that his circle of friends includes "Shaun and Jen", who also hide behind a skull icon. His level of thinking on any issue goes about that deep. But a year and a half later when he gets the chance to have Dusty come on his Drunken Peasants show, suddenly they're good friends. I get what your'e going for, but calling someone out for having lovely beliefs and then becoming friends a year and a half later isn't a crazy thing to happen in life. I assume the implication is that Dusty is still a piece of poo poo today and hasn't relented in his beliefs, which is probably true, but as posted you haven't really made a case. gently caress if I'm going to look at Dusty videos to see how he's doing. There's nothing de facto bad about skulls, but they're a stupidly common trope among reactos, who are generally deadly serious about using them to appear cool. This is worth pointing out and does not implicate Shaun.

He made fun of people for using skull iconography to represent themselves, something that is dumb and childish and quite worthy of mockery (nevermind that all the people using skull symbols were awful garbage humans). Shaun uses a skull icon explicitly as a reference to that fad among Nazi/MRA weirdos, with the joke being that he's doing it while being actually pretty reasonable as opposed to a raving dickhead.

Disagree, hbomberguy has a pathological hatred of disabled people. He regularly uses the disabled toilet (and doesn't wipe the seat after peeing all over it) and only ever parks in disabled parking spaces...sideways.

Have we found the answer to that Mitchell and Webb sketch, at long last? Were the SS only using skull iconography in solidarity with unfairly maligned youtube user bane666?

Would he/they accept that argument if it was turned around? They bust on people all the time saying that their valid criticism is just a code word for (insert an -ism). But if HBomb wants to make fun of a person with a handicap, well we know his motives are pure, so we don't have to suspect him. I'm not saying I agree with either side this is all dumb internet drama, but you can't pretend the guy abides by his own standards. If you look closely, you might be able to tell that Bane's avatar was satire to begin with: I've entirely quit following the YouTube drama at this point I just happen to have a reservoir from a period of trying to figure out what the hell was going on.

revwinnebago posted:Would he/they accept that argument if it was turned around? They bust on people all the time saying that their valid criticism is just a code word for (insert an -ism). You may not have noticed, but right-wingers try to do exactly what you're describing all the time, and it always falls flat, because those accusations are not made in good faith. That's the big difference: when somebody says a right-winger is being racist/sexist/stupid, most of the time they are making that critique in good faith: that they honestly believe that the person is doing what they're being accused of, and that it's a bad thing. Now compare that with when a right-wing youtuber or twitter star tries to accuse a left-wing person of sexism/racism/whatever. It's usually done with a smug OH I GOT THESE LIBTARDS NOW attitude that isn't lost on anyone. And it's in bad faith, because nobody actually believes the accuser thinks that sexism or racism is bad, they understand it's just a rhetorical jab that is being made in bad faith. I take arguments that right wingers make about ludicrous poo poo like white genocide much more seriously, because you can tell that even if they're ridiculous idiots, they actually believe what they're saying. They don't believe/don't care that a rhetorical opponent may or may not be racist, because they don't care about racism. They hate the target, not the racism, which is why this poo poo never really works unless a left-wing person is also making the accusation, because it's actually a true or at least debateable thing.

I'm not saying I agree with either side this is all dumb internet drama, but you can't pretend the guy abides by his own standards. This has already been asked, but it bears repeating until you answer it: when did HBomb ever make fun of this bane guy? This is the first time I've ever heard of him, and I think I've seen all of Harris' drama videos. And as a more general rule, people with disabilities are not beyond reproach, it's just lovely to make fun of them for their disability. Going after someone like Charles Krauthammer for his insatiable bloodlust is okay, going after Krauthammer for being wheelchair-bound is not. So, to recap: -Making fun of a disabled person for being disabled: bad -Making fun of a disabled person for having bad opinions or using a skull avatar or thinking "Bane666" is a good username: fine -Making fun of someone who isn't disabled for doing something stupid that was also done by a disabled person who you might not even know about :
