I kind of love Jason Goes To Hell, but only the unrated cut and especially with the director's commentary. The entire time they're just poo poo talking themselves and the movie and the producers while having nothing but praise for the cast and crew. It's really quite amazing.

From what I remember in Crystal Lake Memories, they hired a director to do a Jason movie and he was like "ok I'll do it but only if I can really gently caress with the program because I don't really like Jason", and they were so sure that the well had run dry on Jason by that point that they let him do it. The director admits now that he probably should have just made a movie with Jason in it.

I like thinking Jason Goes To Hell is roughly 12 minutes long and ends with Jason getting vapourized by FBI mortar fire.

Part 3 was the first one I ever saw, so I'll always have a strong memory of that harpoon-to-the-face kill.

The director admits now that he probably should have just made a movie with Jason in it. He was a young dude and Sean Cunningham told him to get rid of "That loving hockey mask" Personally I love Jason Goes to Hell. It's utterly stupid and features so much silly poo poo that I can't help but love it. The first 10 minutes and Jason's look (when he's actually on screen as Jason) are awesome and the poster is hideous and perfectly 90's. Also Creighton Duke loving rules and I want him in the game so badly. 3 is bad mostly because of Shelley and the 3D effects looking like rear end in 2D. It's a fine early 80's slasher, but the gimmick does kinda kill some of the impact.

For a long time as a kid the only thing I knew about Jason was what the Jason Goes To Hell poster looked like. I imagined it was a movie where Jason died and then most of it was set in hell as he killed his way through an army of demons, murdered Satan, and escaped back to the land of the living or something.

I think I'm repeating myself, but some of the hoops we used to jump through to make "Goes to Hell" fit in with the cannon of the series was loving ridiculous. Mourning the loss of her son, Pamela Voorhees turns to necromancy to try and bring him back. She uses the Necronomicon/Dagger/Whatever but because Jason was still alive she thinks nothing has happened and sets about her revenge. However, the pact to raise Jason from the dead has in fact been taken by the denizens of hell. Hence when he dies he's eventually resurrected... Why it took a bolt of lightning we'll never know... But whatever. Obviously Jason came back then for X and I forget the exact workaround some of the harder nerds thought of to explain that away. Something about the demon that had inhabited Jason's corpse was ripped from him in part 9 and his "shell" was still active and... Did I say this kind of worked? Ignore me, this is all loving garbage. I'm actually super nostalgic for that old message board now. I would have loved to see more of Freddy vs Jason's setup where Jason is almost a pseudo-good guy, not because he's actually nice but because we happen to have the same enemy. Like in AVP when whatsername and the Predator team up because the Aliens are loving everything up Also because I mentioned FvJ I gotta gush about that corn field scene where Jason's on fire and killing people God drat that was the best

Lasher posted:I think I'm repeating myself, but some of the hoops we used to jump through to make "Goes to Hell" fit in with the cannon of the series was loving ridiculous. That’s easy: Jason Goes to Hell is a sensational made-for-TV movie that exists within the Friday the 13th universe. The lore is cobbled together from muddled facts, hearsay, wild speculation, and a bunch of dumb made up poo poo. It aired on Fox, got dismal ratings, but gained enough notoriety as a cult classic to warrant a lovely DTV sequel, Jason X.

Everything about Jason X screams lovely, Asylum knock-off movie except they somehow, inexplicably managed to get the license to the actual franchise instead of having to make it about totally original slasher villain Jarrod Voorhaüs™. Whether you dig that aesthetic or not is on you.

It's kind of funny, I feel like 3 was a terrible movie and goddamn painful to watch with the nonstop 3D stuff, but it also had the most memorable cast by far. Even if I didn't *like* Shelley I will remember Shelley. More than I can say for most of the Dead Teenager Brigade Also whoever was playing Jason was amusing. I love him doing the harpoon shoot and then just kind of swaggering off like "Yup, I did that"

I am super stoked about Fox. She's easily one of the most visually unique characters in the franchise, and her actress was super cool. I'm glad they got a hold of the family and worked things out.
