Or.. or... maybe the bombers don't realize that we aren't going to help them try and get Smith & Saad while accepting unders. We've said that we want pick 11 at minimum, Essendon are trying to flog off pick 11 for pick 19 from the Suns for Saad.

Everyone knows what has been said. The view is that pick 11 without getting anything back is entirely unreasonable given Stringer's mental health issues and the fact he's essentially been kicked out. There was an offer of 11 for Stringer and 26 but that was flatly rejected for some reason.

Because Stringer is worth more than 11 on his own if he goes to the right environment and everyone in the AFL universe knows that. Dodoro pulls this poo poo every time and it's far from loving endearing.

Can't believe I'm going to agree with Terry Wallace, but these are the post Richmond as premiers strange times. Stringer without any of his issues is worth pick 11. But with everything that's gone on with him he's more worth somewhere between 15 - 25 and that seems more fair. Also, does Terry Wallace have the most annoying voice in football?

For your consideration: Nick Dal Santo.

It also annoys me to agree with an Essendon opinion, but Stringer isn’t worth 11 given everything that’s come out about him.

a mid-first round draft pick for stringer and a mid-second has the potential to be the kind of bargain list managers should get fired for.

As is giving up a high pick for a player who never takes to the field again because of well publicized personal problems

Bob Murphy of all people came out and said Stringer was lazy and unprofessional ffs, there is no way anyone who cops that kind of criticism from someone as measured and respected as Bob is worth what the Dogs are asking.

Stringer also refused to meet with Beveridge today so I'd say that bridge is well and truly burnt.

This is a very good point. They're demanding pick 26 to use to get Saad/Smith so why they gently caress should the Bulldogs help them secure either of those players?

Because it's a decent deal for the Dogs and the Dogs more or less have the option of taking that or taking pick 20 from Geelong or taking nothing and paying him half a million to sit around and drink and gently caress 17 year olds for the remainder of his contract

Geelong already offered pick 20 and we told them that it wasn't close to acceptable. Trading out a second rounder along with Stringer would make the trade with Essendon a worse option than the Geelong one.

To be fair the current offer being thrown around is 11 + 46 for Stringer and 26

Looks like the Lever trade has finished up.

Crows give Lever, pick 35 and their 2018 third round selection.

Melbourne give pick 10, and their 2018 first and fourth round selections.

Guess both sides will be relatively happy. Crows get to claim they got two first round picks, while Melbourne who originally wanted to give a first and a second effectively just upped that second round pick to a first in exchange for a second round pick this year and a small pick upgrade next year.

Hopefully everyone can move on now.

It's not really that bad, is it?

In terms of overall value, it's pretty close to the value of the original offer of a first and a second, with the added bonus that the Dees won't have to pick too deep in this year's draft by getting back an extra second round pick. And the Dees should be eyeing up a top 8 spot next year so they wouldn't expect that 2018 first round pick to be exceptional.

It's actually absolute garbage for a third year out of contract player who declared he wasn't going anywhere else. No surprise given how we have handled the Watts situation though.

Don't think the third year bit is really relevant, he's clearly playing like a seasoned player. I get what you mean about out-of-contract player who had chosen a club, though.

I don't know, it feels roughly right to me but obviously I'm biased.

No kidding. He was worth probably a first rounder and a mid 2nd rounder.

Melbourne have removed themselves from the pointy end of two drafts for an intercept defender.. they would want to hope to be top 4 next year 100% to make this even remotely palatable.

That's what they wanted to do all along. Trade off pick 11 which we'd been asking for so that we'd eventually settle for two second rounders or whatever awful offer they made. It's what Dodoro does because he's made a career out of being obnoxiously difficult to deal with at the trade table.

I didn’t see pick 11 going to GWS for the Smith trade. In some ways I’m glad as if seems we have moved on and are focusing on Smith and Saad and then whatever we have left is up to the Dog if they want to take it and if not then eh, someone else can handle Stringer. On the other hand, pick 11 for Smith??

From an unbiased viewpoint I reckon the crows are laughing and the dons did well. Yeah, 11 is a high pick but two picks in the 20s/early 30s isn't a bad return with a good player bundled in as well.
