Prob better for garage chat, but looking at 30'wx48'lx12'h with 2x 10'x7' roll-up doors, 1 man door, 4 windows, and roof insulation, on a poured slab for $11,460 all in. I'll have to make sure the slab thickness is appropriate for a two-post lift (at least in that specific area). Likely not going to plumb the thing for water because of the distance from my well and septic, but will run 200A service to the building. Then ~ $1k to extend my driveway with crushed granite 30'x55' to meet the new building.

Labor is a lot cheaper in the South. The new roof my parents had put on was less than half of the cost of one in Vermont. I was looking at the garage cost in Pennsylvania and I was coming up with $12k to $18k depending on size, so $11k isn't unreasonable

We have a similar range of experiences. My parents still live in Vermont and it cost something like $40,000 to get 5000sq' of 6" concrete poured in their barn/hangar. Similarly, metal roofing that structure was like $25-30k as well.

Jesus Christ.

I'm in Florida, we had a roof put on our house for 12k (about 2000sq'), but then only ended paying 1k because it didn't pass code.

That was about two years ago, no one ever followed up on it so we got a new roof for 1k :v:

I own 7 RX-7s, 2 Olds Cutlasses, the Crown Vic, and her Kia. It helps that 4 of the '7s and one of the Cutlasses are not at the house, but she's OK with it since my car hobby is what gives me the skills to fix our poo poo without paying $Texas for a mechanic that will gently caress it up anyway. Also, she liked my Cutlass from the get go, despite the lack of decent paint and interior panels. So I married her.

One of the reasons I bought here was a distinct lack of inspections and permits. It's completely open use land, which has inherent pitfalls (they could build a landfill next door), but the rewards are way worth it. I can build whatever I want, I can shoot on my own on-site range, and generally be further away from the reaches of the local gubmint.

I agree that the deal seems pretty good, I shopped around and got similar prices through a bunch or building retailers. Concrete is stupid cheap around here, and as mentioned earlier labor is cheap as well. Median income is like $41USD for a family out this way, yet my neighborhood is full of $500k+ homes. Being this close to Asheville pushes a weird economy.
