There is such a thing as placing too much importance and caring too much about on-line stuff, for sure, but it is also really dumb imo when people take pride in not caring when they have been part of a community and interacted with some of the same people on and off for literally years. The newspaper comics thread in BSS was a treasure that kept me entertained for months while I was laid up with a fractured vertebra (slipped on ice, fell down cement steps, etc etc). And I've gotten a lot of happiness out of contributing to that thread; I took over posting a comic when another poster got banned, and added a couple out of curiosity and interest and as time went on. It's fun, and I know it probably adds to people's lives like other posts added to mine. I care a lot about this community. It's really grand. Neat people have come together to make neat things.

Now, maybe Tiny Brontosaurus shouldn’t keep asking for an apology in the Bad With Money thread. However, if you’re moderating a forum, and there’s drama going on, and you could easily stop it just by saying “I’m sorry I said that hurtful thing,” wouldn’t that be a no brainer? I dunno if I have an incomplete picture of the story there, but these probations are a really bad look for Moneyball.

The overreaction people seem to have to her "Can you please treat me like an actual human being and not a thing?" is embarrassing and a simply reply of "Ok" would be enough to allow those threads to move on. Instead they get half a page of derails about it because other people are hell bent on doubling down about it, and then when it gets TB actually frustrated they pivot to the "Calm down woman, you're being hysterical!" pearl clutching.
