Sally Forth is really at its best when it's dealing with human drama, and it's not just Ted Forth being a huge manchild. The latter gets old really quick for me.

If it helps, it's a pun on "nasal," and is pronounced that way - it and a lot of the names in the upcoming story (which is a really fun one, y'all are in for a treat) are puns on nose-and-throat words.

I am not an egghead. I am well-read.
Having lost my father last year after a short, fast illness, I'm not looking forward to this Sally Forth storyline.

I also realized that those old New Yorker cartoons somehow manage to be more bizarre and incomprehensible than Ballard Street, which is intentionally going for weird humor.

For the duration of the current storyline, Sally Forth will not be sitting directly on top of Funky Winkerbean. You'll see why when we get there.

Obviously, sitting on top of the kid mafia in Skippy isn't nearly as problematic. (August 13-15, 1930)

Peanuts (October 14-16, 1970)

Funky Winkerbean (guest starring Ghost Lisa!)

Crankshaft

I kind of skipped this part yesterday, but they were talking about all the different colors of the leaves while the trees were all one shade of green. In this strip, we have a token brown leaf on an otherwise bright green tree. Isn't it wonderful when a colorist doesn't actually read the strip?

And my condolences to you as well. However, I sort of am hoping the storyline will be cathartic. It's already a little different from my experience, but that's OK by me. The phone call thing was on point though.

The hide out of Phantoms through time. The Phantom that is based around an African nation.
How, exactly, have previous Phantoms made the trek across the Atlantic, and across the bulk of North America?

Even if I am generous, and say that his usage of "through time" contains only the 19th century, that is still an incredibly major trip just "to be alone".
Like Pre-WWII, several months of travel round trip.

The first Phantom's father discovered this...before Columbus even arrived on the Eastern shore?
The 2nd Phantom found this mesa before Lewis and Clarke was even born?

This is so loving retarded. I am just SO done with Phantom, unless they bring back that awesome captain lady.
And even then, they'd just gently caress it up and have Phantom put her in jail or some poo poo.
