it's weird looking up local nazis and then in the process seeing their radicalization process on FB. i've seen several who came out of the metaphorical bunker around the time of UTR and you get this weird mix of reactions among their social circle. the nazi friends they had (of course) approved, then you see these horrified reactions from their older chums who proceeded to sever ties, and then a third group that are not nazis but rush to their defense. "i knew so-and-so in the military and they don't have a racist bone in their body." not all of the people who say that are white, either. then the person's twitter account says "i'm here to dispense pain to nigs and kikes."

I’m reading George Hawley’s Making Sense of the Alt-Right, and it’s a pretty thorough history and mapping of what the nazis do and don’t have in common with republicans generally. He makes use of interviews he conducted with Spencer and Paul Gottfried, though I don’t know the original context. Spencer comes off vapid as poo poo.
