Head of the agency has decided that he wants to have a mandatory, standardized, enforced email signature agency-wide. We're using Office365 so this is not really that difficult from an IT standpoint, it's quite easy to do. I get started on the stuff that I need to do on my end and he gives me a template for the signature that he wants used...it's loving hideous. It's like 6 different lines, way too much info, has graphics, italics, different fonts, etc. I try to see if he's willing to simplify it and remove some of the unnecessary info but nope, he's not hearing it, he wants it exactly like his own signature. So now I've got to figure out how to apply it to everyone but me.

We had a test scheduled for a new edge router config today at 1PM with consult from someone in another department. I have put in my notice and am relocating alongside taking a new job, so I was going to spend today off work traveling to the new city to scout apartments because the new job wanted me to start Oct 30th--but instead came in to do this edge router test, which is really my final project to do here. Boss never showed. Consult never showed. At 1:45 I said gently caress it and left, to call and set up more showings for next Thursday and Friday. I know that they're going to want to do the test next Friday at the same time (it's a convenient window), but gently caress em.

My co-worker just can't comprehend Telnet. All he needs to do is log in, put in a 4 word command, and logout. I wrote a detailed guide. I have already guided him over the phone two separate times. He just called me again. I am now going to murder him. Edit: And now it is 3:30pm on a Friday, otherwise known as 'i-give-no-fucks-o-clock', so my phone will be mysteriously broken for the remainder of the day. These are on site technicians at customer locations, and they are changing a port that can only be changed using Telnet due to our engineering being retarded assholes. At least this is another reason for me to leave.

Edit: I might just skip the whole Windows Telnet client and just build something in Python as it seems I can connect through Telnet that way and build it into an executable, I have been planning on learning the language and a few less phone calls a day is worth the time. While PowerShell doesn't have any native API specific to telnet, the telnet protocol is simple enough where you can just use .NET to open a TCP socket on the server. That would look something like this: https://gist.github.com/grantcarthew/6985142

Our ordering system which DOES suck for the majority has one nice feature where it has two separate part number fields for each part. The OEM one that if I do up a purchase order or need it on the phone, and the bullshit ones we want to make up. It's handy if there are two version of the exact same part with same OEM number so we just put a few letters of the manufacturer into OUR number so when we see it we can order the wigit from whomever has stock/cheapest.

In the spirit of ordering systems chat we're getting yet another in-house built tool to record assets and equipment orders, and I curiously conversed with a couple people about why on earth does everything have to be custom built instead of getting a proven off the shelf product? Case in point there's a staging version up for testing and the first thing I noticed there was no option to record a PO number... which is pretty silly, and had to explain the merits of keeping fields and data standardised early.

"Order Type" can be 'service', 'unit', 'parts', 'warranty', 'exchange' Shipping sees a list of 'part' orders so they box those up and ship em Production sees a list of 'unit' orders so they build those and ship them out Who sees the warranty parts? NOBODY You dumb fucks. I tried explaining that parts/unit/service needs to be one field, and exchange/warranty/regular needs to be another.
