It's a slow burn for the first few episodes, but very much worth making it through. Really really good show.

I watched Dear White People. It took me three tries to get into it but after the first episode I watched the whole thing in one night. I am excited for a second season.

Stranger Things is a fun show but it's not super-ultra-lifechangingly brilliant or anything. If you're not feeling the first couple episodes, you probably won't enjoy the rest, even if the characters do get a lot more fun as things go on.

It's not on Prime, Hulu, or Netflix.

Edit: Lady Vengeance is on Prime (with a Tribeca Shortlist subscription)

Lady Vengeance ( and mmmmaybe Mr. Vengeance) was on Netflix at some point since that's where I watched it, maybe it'll come back.

Speaking of Netflix, I'm about halfway through the documentary Mr. Dynamite: the Rise of James Brown and it freakin rules.

I ran out of stuff to watch and started playing American Vandal, knowing nothing about it.

It's probably 2-3 episodes too long, but it's pretty fuckin funny. It's one of those long-form crime documentaries that slowly reveals exciting details to you over hours and hours of content, but it's about who spray painted dicks on 27 cars in a school faculty parking lot.

I've heard season 2 of the good place retreads alot of the same ground for a couple episodes for obvious reasons before it breaks off again. Still waiting for it to hit netflix though, season 1 was great.

I couldn't get into American Vandal, just don't see the appeal. It looks well done but the main character is a shithead and I found myself thinking he deserves blame whether he did it or not.

The Good Place is awesome. I've only seen two episodes of S2 but I can see where it's going. It really doesn't retread S1 much.

I've been watching Manhunt on Netflix and it's pretty good. It's about the Unabomber and how they caught him and the events leading up to his trial.

"Based on a true story" so it definitely takes some liberties with the storytelling but I don't think it goes too far, from what I remember when it happened anyway.

Sam Worthington and Paul Bettany are in it too, which helps.

The first few eps of season 2 feel exactly the opposite of a slow retread.

Anyway, +1 to watching The Good Place, it's loving fantastic. One of those shows where I immediately felt like rewatching the entire thing as soon as I finished, like Westworld.

They haven't touched on it yet, but I'm only like 4 episodes in so not sure if they will or not. I'm only up to the point that his brother reads the manifesto and they don't know who Ted is yet, so if they delve into his past at all I would think that would be in the coming episodes.

That said, knowing what I do about the show I would be surprised if they did go into much detail on that, if at all.

Not that the other films are bad per se, it's just that Oldboy is by far the strongest of the bunch. I'm not one to yell at the TV often but the first time I saw the climax, I definitely gasped and shouted "OH NO loving WAY!" Chan-wook Park knows how to tell a revenge story, that's for guddamn sure.

This is actually a pretty good description of the series as a whole. I went into it thinking I'd bail pretty early and ended up starting it over as soon as it was done instead. It's wonderfully witty.

Harmonquest Season 2 is amazingly disappointing, especially when compared to the first season.

It's a mess. I can live with the occasional technical issue (sound mixing, editing gaffes, etc.), but the first several episodes look as though they were filmed one right after another after a bender and slapped together at the last minute. Harmon is fatigued as hell, like he's nursing a massive hangover, stumbling over thoughts and sentences, Jeff Davis looks like he just got off a 30-hour flight and went straight to the studio carrying a pile of blazers to change into between episodes, and the first few guests seem like they don't really know why they are there or what to do. Even Spencer seems off his game a bit.

Erin McGathy either didn't go to the party with them or has a secret hangover cure because she's (for the most part) fine.

And some things are just weird, like Harmon introducing McGathy as his ex-wife at the beginning of each episode. Seriously, what the gently caress? That's awkward as hell. And why was Aparna Nancherla introduced as "a new friend" with no elaboration as to how she and Harmon know each other or even what she does for a living?

also this may just be me but holy poo poo there is a super weird vibe between Harmon and Gillian Jacobs, who he worked with on Community. it's like they dated briefly and he broke it off, but he keeps finding hand and nose prints on the outside of his bedroom window in the morning

The animation is top-notch, though. One of the scant few good things I can say about the season so far.

Finished Manhunt, it was pretty good, though it ended a bit abruptly. I guess I don't know where else they would have gone with it.

I'd suggest giving it a watch, it's pretty quick at only 8 episodes.

Started watching the unrelated new Mindhunter Netflix series that's about the creation of the term serial killer and what led up to it. I'm only 2 episodes in but it's pretty good so far. It's produced by David Fincher. Starts out with a teacher at the FBI that is training agents on hostage negotiation. He takes an interest in criminal psychology and teams up with another teacher to track down serial killers.

Yeah I don't get where they're going with that. I think it's fine on his part because he's supposed to be the intellectual weirdo and come off as awkward but she makes no sense so far.

I did appreciate that they put subtitles in the scene with the band so you knew what the hell they were saying.
