Socialism is inherently driven by material self interest, not morality. Any conflict of interests always threaten to tear solidarity apart.

Rather then to appeal to morality you should try to prove that there is no conflict of interest. Or better put:

Like don't get me wrong a universal world government run as essentially a worker's coop would be a top top thing imo. The problem is we need to have a Paris commune style terror first to get rid of the bad actors.

oh hey cool an actual argument

my point is that migration issues and how effects the native working class is not clear cut and cannot be brushed aside by casual assertions to racism, it has to be openly discussed

also, axiom "widely asserted" by jezza as well

quote:

In the future, foreign workers would "come here on the basis of the jobs available and their skill sets to go with it. What we wouldn't allow is this practice by agencies, who are quite disgraceful they way they do it - recruit a workforce, low paid - and bring them here in order to dismiss an existing workforce in the construction industry, then pay them low wages. It's appalling. And the only people who benefit are the companies."

Jazerus

the solution is to not allow migrant workers to be treated worse than native workers so that there is no incentive to import foreigners to be abused

bump_fn

i was talking to a swede about a similar problem there today, the problem there was that polish construction companies want to bring in their own polish construction workers and pay them polish wages instead of swedish wages, which then fucks over both the migrant workers and the native swedish workers. iirc they're trying to figure out how to make the laws such that this practice is illegal but idk im not swedish

the obvious answer is that the minimum wage applies to everyone so there is no incentive to bring foreign workers in to pay them nothing

what about industries and positions in general substantially above minimum wage?

bringing in foreign workers to work closer to minimum is still attractive to corporations, in that case.

yeah this was the purported problem in sweden. there was also prob a dash of racism/nationalism where people believe that there's no way a polish construction worker could ever be as well trained as a swedish one, as an excuse to pay them less
