At this point the only thing that might keep me watching was that the mystery at the very end of the last episode was pretty intriguing.

Yeah, it's one of those shows where I enjoy it enough. Like I'll keep watching it, but assuming I notice, I wouldn't be heartbroken if it disappeared from the schedule.

We've Got To Go Back
I finally watched the Halt & Catch Fire season finale. I feel a real sense of sadness letting these characters go (like I did with shows like Mad Men or Six Feet Under). I could spend 4 more seasons checking in on these characters, but I am thankful for the 4 I got. Of all TWD garbage that AMC has put out recently, it is a shame how under watched this show was. Along with The Leftovers it might be my favorite series since Mad Men.

Man what a great year of TV so far. Patriot, The Leftovers, Legion, The Handmaid's Tale, Master of None, Halt & Catch Fire, GLOW, Love, and so on.

I dunno, the Weinstein scandal has me thinking a lot about what happens to actresses who don't play ball.

Not that Sarah Michelle Gellar was some amazing fountain of talent, mind.

Unrelated: really nice speech from Donna about women in Tech, bit of fan service there which I'm sure the Feminist Frequency people will gush over but I thought it had some good undertones to the characters and wasn't too out of place.

I didn't like that stretch of the finale simply because it came across too heavy handed. One of the great aspects of the show is they didn't need to hit you over the head with everything they were trying to say. That speech went against it. They did the same thing at the pool later talking about Haley being gay. The audience more or less knew, Joe definitely knew, and everyone else had the thought in their heads. It didn't need Donna blurting it out and a hearty chuckle to get it through to us. It just felt out of place.

I loved almost everything about the last season except Cameron's story. She felt like a background character and the stuff with Alexa seemed like something they started and didn't know what to do with. Like what was the point of the whole thing?

The episode where they dealt with the aftermath of Gordon's death is one of my favorite episodes of any show ever. Can't remember an episode that has nailed that awkward, sad time a week or so after someone's death. Not sure of what to giveaway or what will bring out a new emotion. Donna explaining how you pack and save something in an attic because it belonged to someone else in the family to give to someone else in the family who will just store it in their attic and do the same thing. It's all kind of pointless but we do it anyway. Also the end at the table with Joe was about as sad as it gets. Gordon was the only person who really forgave him for when he was a bad person.

I thought the Haley thing was funny because everyone knew except Donna because she was too busy with her own world. Didn't think the scene was hitting anything over its head. Donna is this trailblazing fem executive but she has no idea what's going on with her own girls.

Also season 4 makes me nostalgic for some lovely 90s music. Yes I want back to listen to some Veruca Salt.

Also how many shows got better with each passing season? There are shows like The Leftovers that made a leap one season and didn't look back but I can't think of many that slowly got better and better the longer it went.

I'm certain he knew after the hair cut. He was pretty shaken about it and when talking to Donna he said something like it's not a cute or pretty/conventional haircut, and that she's going to hate it. He also went back to that diner on his own and saw the waitress to confirm it if I recall correctly.

SHINee's back

w/r/t (HaCF stuff. it's only been two days, I'ma spoil dis poo poo) Donna's speech near the end, I hated it, it was the one black mark on the episode for me. Not because of its contents or anything, but it was long, came out of nowhere and ground the episode to a halt imo.

If they had spent even five minutes this season-- or five seconds this episode!-- establishing that Donna throws these cocktail parties for the ladies of tech and business then I wouldn't care. Maybe they were trying to say something about her changing for the better and being less selfish in her job, or something, but it just felt weird and out of place.

The moment where Cam and her have a laugh about Haley being gay was awesome, though, that felt very real to me and not heavy handed at all. Reminded me of when I came out and my family just went 'lol we know'.

e: the Haley stuff was great in general, heartbreaking as some of it was. That poo poo was my teen lesbian experience down to the Veruca Salt.

It didn't bother me at all. I do agree with the critics that Joe's ending shouldn't have been the final scene. Instead ending it on the Donna/Cam 'I have an idea' would have been better. I do get why they ended it where it started. Also it is weird to think of Joe in season 4 vs season 1. You can tell they had a big change of direction given the issues people had with season 1. I wonder what the plan was originally for show overall?
That said making Donna and Cam just as important as everyone else in season 2 made this show a lot better.

I almost wish we hadn't seen Joe at all, just ended with Donna and Cam and left him ambiguous. Did he run back to IBM? Kill himself? Move on?

I do love that Joe is the one character who legit changed the most, and for the better, though. After years of only Gordon believing he had become a better man.

Rearranging the last two scenes would have ended with more of a bang than a fizzle, so I agree with you there. In general I feel like there were some weird editing choices in the finale.

I liked ending with Joe because the narrative was that he got out of the tech loop, or at least the loop that Donna and Cam were still in. It shows that rather than chasing the future, Joe becomes content to sit back and watch it play out rather than trying to ride the wave. As a viewer, because it was the end of the show, we too were stepping back to take account of the past and then look to the future and wonder what will happen next.

Ending with Donna and Cam would have felt more like a cliffhanger for another season. The Joe scene felt like genuine closure.

Re: Haley is gay chat. I liked that Donna kind of knew she was gay but I felt like due to her relationship of being her mother that was a conversation that she didn't want to confront her own. So throwing it out there to Cam and having Cam confirm it avoided some awkwardness about the situation for her.

Another gut punch scene I totally forgot about was the phone call from Thailand.
