It's really fun. Set up the lever to be just a three-way, then the volume pot has push-pull to change to the alternate voicing, and the tone pot is push-pull for coil tap.

Now I want to do an RGA7 with the Tosin Fluences and a Hipshot piezo bridge. :getin:

There's been some nut-slot file chat, and so when I came across this cheap set on Rondo's site I figured I would share. I was buying a 3/4 scale sparkly purple LP for my daughter, so I picked one up and will report. (obviously on both the files and the pretty purple guitar)

EDIT: I also found what appears to be cheap fret leveling beams at a model airplane hobby store: http://www.greatplanes.com/accys/gpmr6170.html I ordered one of the 11" dealies (I think 22" is a bit too long?) and I will report back on that as well!

Now I just need to find the free time to use this stuff!

I can't imagine any workplace would get mad about painted breasts in a background where the nipple is covered by the guitar parts anyways. At least, any more mad than they would about you looking at guitar pictures during work hours. But then again, I haven't worked in anything resembling a normal company for years. A guy on my local CL is selling an Aerodyne Tele for a pretty good price. For those unfamiliar, it's a MIJ tele with a carved top, no PG or control plate, selector switch in the same spot as a LP (???), black with cream binding and matching headstock, ...and a P90 at the neck.

It is one of the coolest guitars I've ever seen and it's all I can do to not go and drop six c-notes right goddamn now. The only mitigating factor is that it's apparently got a vintage 7.25" fretboard radius which is waaaaay lower than what I like or am used to.

The GAS is real :(

The best/worst thing about G&L is they have poor resale value, so you can find a great guitar for a lot less than a Fender of equivalent quality, but you won't get much out of it if you try to resell. I would recommend never buying a new G&L unless you are getting a specific build made since they depreciate so much, but you can find a ton used on ebay or reverb. Also as mentioned the pickups are a bit different and the tone controls are different and a superior model imo. I actually really like the S500 series the MFD pickups have a cool sound to them, the Legacy are closer to strats and the ASAT's in general are pretty highly regarded.

Additionally they do have a pretty good custom order model if you wanted to go that route, find a dealer and request specific build options and they will knock it out in a few months for about the same price as a stock model. I did a custom order ASAT with neck/pickup options I couldn't find in any of the stock models and it was the same price as one off the shelf and only took a few months to get.

Wow, those are nice. I have a Stratocaster with 7.25 radius and don't find it particularly different from the 9.5 on my Tele. The P90 probably makes for a great neck pickup on it, too.

And if you get it for a good price you can always resell it for at least what you paid. And it might appreciate in value with time. Hell, it might even be fiscally IRRESPONSIBLE to turn down this potential investment.

(Also, the correct # of Telecasters in your collection is n+1 where n = how many you currently own)

It's a painting that came from my granny's house, where it hung on the wall while various little old european ladies had coffee and cake every morning for decades, and literally nobody ever complained about it even when the nipples weren't obscured by a half-finished guitar. I didn't even notice it was in the photo because it hangs on my wall there and everyone who sees it understands that it's not omg porno titties, it's a painting.

This one will get you in trouble at work though, so I'll spoiler it: entirely obscured by the guitar, but still in the photo just as much as the nipples in the pic you're talking about, is a drawing of a lady and you can see her pubes.

There's a difference?

It's really the second lounge room / wife's art and craft room / work-from-home room / music room / games room / drinking room. My wife makes the decorating decisions because she's an actual artist and I have no idea about paintings. I would have donated the titty painting to a thrift store with all the other paintings while clearing out my gran's house, but my wife said it needed to go on the wall and if I start questioning decisions about paintings she's gonna start asking awkward questions like "do you actually need another bass?" or making me buy monitors based on whether they match the curtains or something.

The deluxe is the three pickup version?

If you can still get the standard tele sound out of the deluxe, I can't see a reason to go for the standard unless the standard feels way better to play which... it might? I think the neck and frets are different too, right?

The deluxe, for sure, if money is no consideration. The deluxe has locking tuners, which loving rule. Also, noiseless single coils are cool, I guess. But mostly: locking tuners.

They both have three single coil pickups. My understanding of the differences between them is that the deluxe has locking tuners, noiseless pickups, the little button that lets you add the bridge pickup in position 4 and 5, and a 12" radius neck. It also comes with a gig bag.

I think the thing I'm most interested in is to hear opinions on the noiseless pickups. Based on Youtube comparisons they sound warmer. Some people say they lack the classic strat "quack". On the other hand, just dial up your treble a bit? I dunno.

They are great amps, especially on the clean channel. Take pedals well. But they are really loud. And most people do not like the drive channel at all. So just know what you are getting into.

That sounds like a good price to me. They usually seem to go for $400-500 locally. But I guess it depends on your area.

Seconding the dirty channel is garbage. I wanted an amp to pair with my Classic 50 4x10" and thought the new Fender Hot Rod Blues and would be a perfect match. Instead, I found the clean channel to be better than the Peavey by leaps and bounds, but the overdrive channel was fizzy and wimpy and I hated it. I played several to make sure, but it definitely did not compare favorably to the Classic 50 where all I really intended to use was the crunch channel.

I also read Telecaster at first. I must be dimension hopping because I never make mistakes.

I'd say it depends. I'm a bit of a control freak with my gear and want everything customized to my tastes. I'd go with whichever had the most features I wanted, gut the rest, and replace those parts with whatever I wanted. I'm assuming your not planning to make many changes, so I'll try to address the Deluxe in that way.

As mentioned, the standard single coil will have a bit harmonic complexity the noiseless won't. On the standard, you can get basic cheap shielding on a pickguard if noise is a problem. More complete shielding is a project, but whether you need it will depend on your style of music/effects/etc.

The Deluxe is a discontinued model, in large part because it's noiseless pickups are 3rd generation, and Fender now produces a newer, 4th generation, set, which are largely thought to sound better. I've heard those and think they are very similar to the Professional Series pickups Fender uses these days. Personally, I prefer a more vintage sound and think Fender's more modern selections are a bit sterile. That said, 4th gen noiseless are nice for someone who needs it dead quiet. I can't comment on the 3rd gen though.

Locking tuners definitely are great, but you can get those Fender branded ones that will pop-right in a standard strat for $50 if you look around. That's what I did. Go off brand and you will save maybe $15. Lots of locking sets to choose from out there.

So basically, I'd say get whatever is closest to your ideal with a color you like and slowly mod the rest as your skill allows.
