IIRC you don't have to tail them, if you know where they're going you can just go there. MGSV usually isn't too strict about mission objectives.

If it's the mission I think it is with the guard going duck duck goose until you find the dude you are looking for you only need to follow that dude around once to know where everyone is kept then go hog wild.

Now you know how I don't like to use the sit-down gun, but this morning we just don't have time for mucking about.

MGSV, for all its faults, has the only good implementation of an eavesdropping mission. You can:

1. Actually eavesdrop, made easier by your plethora of stealth tools
2. Shoot the guy's guards and ask him directly
3. Knock the guy out and send him to your ~information retrieval specialists~
4. Ignore the guy entirely and look for the prisoner

And the only failure states are you or the prisoner dies. Even after you set off an alarm in the base with the prisoner, you've got a bit before they're executed.

if you know where he is, you can completely ignore that and run over to where they're taking him regardless. he'll show up either way

there aren't any triggers forcing you to do things a certain way. like the mission where you're supposed to find a specific truck and they want you to go around and figure out where it'll be? you can go directly to where it's sitting before the driver gets there and finish the mission in like 2 minutes

The first time you truly realize that the MGSV missions are freeform and you can do whatever as long as the objective gets completed is very liberating.

Like there's one mission where following the natural path involves sneaking around for ten minutes, but you can also complete it by leveling the base from your helicopter and because that's so quick you get an S Rank for it

This is what I liked in MGSV and I wish other stealth focused games did it. It may have not been the perfect game but the open-endedness of it was refreshing and was a stealth game I could truly enjoy and if I hosed up I could adapt....

Or blow up the entire base/outpost and leave no witnesses.

The SP for Doom is at least twice the length of most modern FPS campaigns and mega-good.

Bethesda also started slashing prices on the game almost immediately, I remember buying mine on PC near launch for like $48. It's kind of ridiculous that DOOM of all things had to be the sleeper hit of 2016.

I generally like most games I play (due in large part to goons posting negative opinions that help me avoid stuff I won't like), but I find uncritical opinions generally boring. If I'm ever posting something completely positive about a game it's usually because I feel it or some aspect of it is under-appreciated. I don't think you can really engage with any work of art from a position of total deference; no human-made thing is untouched by the flawed world in which it was created. And that's especially true of a medium that's as commercial as video games. This isn't to say positive posts are bad, just that I usually skim and scroll right past them. I'd be suspicious of any group of enthusiasts that didn't have strong and well-formed and nitpicky opinions about the things they claim to obsess over.

It's good to be critical of the things you like. Nothing's perfect and expecting something to be treated as perfection leads to blind fanboyism.

I recently bought a new 4K HDR TV. Is it normal for HDR to look a lot more "washed out" or darker? That's what HDR is for right?

Also, is upgrading to the PS4 Pro worth it? Or should I just let my TV upscale from 1080p to 4k? The picture quality seems fine for Horizon Zero Dawn and NBA 2K18 but I know it doesn't compare to the PS4 Pro. I really wished the PS4 Pro had UHD Blu-Ray playback as I'd upgrade alone just for that.

For HDR, make sure every part of the chain supports HDR and has it enabled- the console, the TV, the game, any other hardware you may have between the TV and the console. The TV may have weird rules like only supporting HDR on certain inputs or with certain menu items enabled. The PSVR processor box does not support HDR and will need to be bypassed if you have one.

A PS4 Pro will look much better than a slim/launch on a 4K TV, if you can drop that kind of cash after the TV it's probably worthwhile to upgrade.

Given enough time and energy I could probably find fault with all the games I like, but my feeling is ultimately what's the point? For whose benefit is it to be de facto critical all the time? If I think a game is awesome its flaws aren't really going to bother me unless I dwell on them, and to dwell on them would reduce my overall enjoyment of what I've experienced, so I'm just probably going to let it all side. If my emotional response is positive overall, then I'll hold it in high regard until something better comes along.
