It's impressive and very sad how many people are happy being completely sexist under their real name. I wish they had their jobs listed so I could let their employers know.

Rest is just the usual people who think you lose money when you go up a tax bracket and that they were gonna be taxed per glass of water.

the echo chamber here is insane

the fact that 'you' all won doesn't mean you get to gloat, doesn't it mean that you won, and that you should now knuckle down and work for what you voted for?

i didn't vote (i don't vote and i don't complain) but either way, isn't it good that a middle ground was found?

and if a middle ground WAS found, do you want to push people off it, or welcome them?

Yea myself and a couple others did inform her on the actual meaning of majority and how they didn't have one etc. There was another lady who said "why did this happen if national won the election? " and was suitably informed to where she deleted the message thread sadly.

Also like gently caress we don't get to celebrate this. It's been 9 years of nat supporters shoving this poo poo down our throat. You're trying to quiet us on victory night.

I fee pretty ambivalent about this outcome. I'm not happy about NZF and Labours immigration stance and I'm glad the Greens are keeping a wee bit of distance though I hope for the best with this government. Hopefully the Greens can push for some policy aimed at helping those at the bottom since every other party doesn't give much of a poo poo.

Yeah it's far from perfect. I guess after nine years, we're taking victories where we can get them. I think it's important that we stay vocal, and stay active in our communities, and keep on holding the government to account. This is a better outcome than we were expecting as little as six months ago, but once the hangovers have cleared away, it's gonna be time to get to work.

What the Greens just sent out:

quote:

Well, this is exciting! Our goal was to change the government and we have. Thank you for the support you gave us to achieve that.

The agreement we have reached with the Labour Party will deliver the most green change that any government has ever delivered in Aotearoa New Zealand.

We have changed the government and now we will change the country for the better.

Tonight the Green Party held a virtual meeting of 150 delegates appointed by branches from all over New Zealand, and MPs, ENs, PNs, Te Roopu Pounamu and Province Convenors, Party Executives, Leadership Group, Facilitation Team, Negotiation Team and Negotiation Consultation Group.

Our Negotiating Team comprised of our Co-leader James Shaw, Chief of Staff Tory Whanau, former Chief of Staff Andrew Campbell, MP Eugenie Sage, and Party Co-convenor Debs Martin.

We had a wider Negotiation Consultation Group provide guidance to the Negotiating Team, which consisted of a range of trusted experienced members: Party Co-convenor John Ranta, former Party Co-convenor Roland Sapsford, Kath Dewar, Policy Co-convenor Caroline Glass, MPs Jan Logie, Julie Anne Genter, and Gareth Hughes, former candidates Jack McDonald, Robin McCandless and David Moorhouse, and our esteemed former Co-leader Jeanette Fitzsimons.

They have all worked incredibly hard to get the best possible deal we could for the things we know our members hold dear.

We have decided on a confidence and supply arrangement that makes significant policy gains in the areas that our Party members like yourselves have told us you value. Some of the details of that agreement are given below. We will provide support for this government so that New Zealand can go the distance.

The shape of the new government will give the Greens power and influence to deliver on our goals, and also allow us room to retain our independence and stay true to our values.

We will deliver progress on the commitments we made to New Zealand during the election campaign.

Our agreement with Labour will see significant gains in important areas like climate change, water quality, and welfare reform. Our conservation estate, our oceans, and our native birds will be better protected. Our cities will move faster and their people will be happier with cleaner transport options and better urban design.

Our government will treat all people with dignity and respect. We will insulate more homes and bring home ownership within reach of more people. We will help fix the mental health system. And our education system will better support all children, no matter what their learning needs are.

Women will be paid more, as we work to close the gender pay gap and we will always, in everything we do, uphold Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Most importantly, the Greens will be stable, principled and maintain our integrity. Aotearoa’s democracy will become stronger.

With Labour we will work hard to ensure New Zealand is once again a world leader and a country we can all be proud of.

Governing with Labour and NZ First will mean sometimes we’ll have to be pragmatic. We share a lot of goals and values, but not all of them. Through every compromise, the Green Party’s core values will always guide us.

We will have Green Party Ministers and Associate Ministers who will be at the heart of good green change in our priority areas.
The portfolio areas will be revealed in the coming day.

The policy gains include:

  • Significant climate action, with a shift towards a net zero carbon emissions economy by 2050. The specific focuses will be on: transport, energy, primary industries. The establishment of an Independent Climate Commission. Support for a shift in farming to more sustainable land use.
  • Overhaul the welfare system, ensure access to entitlements, remove excessive sanctions and review Working For Families so that everyone has a standard of living and income that enables them to live in dignity
  • Significant increase in the Conservation budget
  • Improve water quality and prioritise achieving healthy rivers, lakes and aquifers with stronger regulatory instruments, funding for freshwater enhancement and winding down Government support for irrigation
  • Free counselling for under-25s and access to mental health services and support for everyone
  • Access to education for children with special needs and learning difficulties
  • Substantial progress in this parliamentary term to eliminating the gender pay gap in the public service
  • Reduction in the number of students living in hardship
  • Review, and adequately fund and support, the family re-unification scheme for refugees.
  • Increase funding for alcohol and drug addiction services and ensure drug use is treated as a health issue, and have a referendum on legalising the personal use of cannabis at, or by, the 2020 general election.
  • We draw our strength from you – our members. On behalf of all the Green MPs, we are prouder than ever to represent you.

The hard work starts now and the Green Party is ready.
