Any suggestions on funny mean-spirited comedies? I've seen and enjoyed Dokuro-chan, Daimahou Touge, Binbougami Ga, Excel Saga, Yondemasu-yo Azazel-san to various degrees, and some others that don't immediately come to mind. I should probably finish watching the second and third seasons of SZS, since I loved the first season. Gintama also fits the bill and I'm somewhere in the middle of it and gradually working on it, but that's a project that will take some time. Anything else stupid and amusing that I'm missing? VVVV: I related to the main character and found it really cringey when I watched it, for whatever that's worth. Kytrarewn fucked around with this message at 03:53 on Oct 21, 2017 |

It's not my fault that I'm not popular? Depending on how much you relate or feel bad for the mc, it is insanely cringey or really hilarious, sometimes both

I'll definitely give Towards the Terra another shot. I believe I tried watching it over a decade ago but gave up real fast due to impatience. Space Battleship Yamato 2199 and Banner/Crest of the stars I've actually watched. COTS is definitely one of my all-time favourites but probably more due to the romance to a degree. My memory is shady about it. I've watched other gundam shows in the past but they usually don't tick those boxes very well. 08th MS Team is probably my favourite of the slightly older ones due to the realistic take on mecha warfare. I'll take a new look on the older Gundam I guess. I've pretty much watched all mainline Gundam shows released since Seed. (Not the Chibi shows, the one with several generations and build fighters after the first season because they all kinda suck) Oh and I've watched Bodacious space pirates too. Great hard sci-fi elements and that OP holy poo poo.

Hey guys, thanks for the recommendations last page. I started with Shinsekai Yori and it was perfect and just the right amount of hosed up. I'm starting the next thing in a little bit here once I decide which recommendation to watch next, but I'll probably work my way through everyone's suggestions since they all look pretty rad so hey, thanks again.

I'm reading/watching Death Note and want more time with the detective team. Are there any good manga/anime about a semi-realistic team of police/detectives? I say semi-realistic because I love Burn Up, but want to see some real police work. Basically I want Gotham Central as a manga/anime.

Other than GITS: SAC, Psycho-Pass would probably fit the bill as well, though neither of those really fit neatly into the police procedural niche.

Really stretching it but ACCA had a central inspection agency of a modern-esque imaginary Kingdom where the protagonist visits bunch of the 13 different districts that used to be separate nation states. Not that much "police" work or specific crimes but it might scratch the itch.

I'll have to give it another watch. I've seen Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita. I enjoyed it well enough, though nowhere near as much it seems that reddit does. Haganai I've seen, but I did love (most of) it, except the parts where Sena attempts to slap back and steps over the line, causing everyone to hate her when she just wanted to be an active participant in the banter with her friends, which hit a bit too close to home. Gaworare (Kanojo ga Flag wo Oraretara) also had an excellent parody of Haganai, as well, which is very funny even if you haven't seen the original, but much more so if you have. Police/detective manga - here are some I'm currently reading or have read: Route End Due to a harsh experience in life, Haruno eventually becomes a cleaning specialist in the field of clearing the remnants of the deceased. After a particular day, Haruno becomes involved in the curious case of 'END'. -ongoing; main character is a civilian working w/police to catch a serial killer Shibatora Officer Shibata Taketora works in a local koban (a small police office). He may have a child-like face on the outside, but he's more serious than anyone in his pursuit of justice! With his goal being to become a detective, Taketora confronts everyday problems that happen within the town! Various incidents within the street make him chase after and apprehend criminals! -a must-read if you like cop manga Switch Etou Kai may look like a squeaky-clean kid, but the Greater Kanto Narcotics Control Division's new investigator hides a violent alter ego and a dangerous past. With his stoic partner Kurabayashi Hal, Kai is assigned to track down and stop the distribution of Dragon Speed, a dangerous new drug. But Ryuugen, the syndicate trafficking the drug, is almost impossible to infiltrate. Add street violence and a jurisdiction war with the Meguro Police into the mix, and it looks like Kai's in for some very long days at the office. -kinda meh; it also has a short anime adaption Himitsu It's the 2060's, and Japan has perfected "The MRI System," a piece of neurotechnology that, when given the brain of a person who died within the past 48 hours, can analyse the visual memories contained within; even being able to give scientists a look into what the deceased saw in their final moments. Needless to say, this is a highly regarded - and greatly feared - method that has been placed under stringent restrictions and is only authorised for use by a special police unit, Section Nine, for the investigation of baffling or high-profile crimes. Aoki Ikkou is a talented newbie who has just been assigned to Section Nine. He initially has qualms about delving into people's most private moments and analysing their darkest fears and fantasies, but as he settles in with his teammates and warms up to his boss, the highly intelligent Maki Tsuyoshi, he becomes more and more competent at his job. Though quick to develop pride in his career, Aoki still struggles to balance his family relationships and love life with his demanding workload, further complicated when he's drawn into the dark past and murky circumstances surrounding the outwardly cool and self-controlled but internally tormented Maki. -sci-fi but limited to the MRI thing; translation is ongoing but VERY slow but 9 volumes out of 12 are complete at least; there's an anime adaption but having watched part of it you're probably better off just reading the manga Border On her first day as a police academy trainee, Haruna is assigned to keep an eye on Ishikawa Ango, a driven and resourceful detective who has recently survived a gunshot wound to the head. What Haruna doesn't know is that the incident has given Ishikawa the ability to see and communicate with spirits of the victims, making him even more determined to use his special ability to catch culprits. -some supernatural elements since the guy sees ghosts but he has to work within the scope of his investigation so it's fairly grounded; ongoing but there's at least one full case translated Seigi Keikan Monju Monju is a prototype of a line of anti-crime police robots, and he was an elite, celebrated member of the force. Now, to his dismay, he's been re-assigned out in the country, working alongside Yamagashi Junpei, a young cop who is mostly concerned with sexy women and his possibly thinning hair. Monju's combat capabilities seem unnecessary for a small town with its small crimes, and the people don't initially welcome him. Monju will have to find his place in this new situation, and win over the people around him with his skill for protecting the innocent. The first major case he must solve is catching an underwear thief, who Monju suspects might actually be the perverted Junpei. Will the two of them be able to catch the thief and clear Junpei's name? -translation of this just picked up on this one after being abandoned so there are only 3 chapters but it's fantastic so far Really looking forward to more of this. I'll also mention Devil's Line which is a pretty cool vampire manga; the lead is in a special police squad that investigates vampire crimes. It's licensed and something like 8 or 9 volumes are already out and it has an anime coming out at some point. I have a bigger list but the rest are all BL titles

I'm looking for something with a similar vibe to Mirai Nikki. This has been a bizarrely hard itch to scratch. Basically, what I want is something fast-paced and bugfuck crazy, but with a legit good emotional core and good character writing in it. If it involves a Highlander-esque "there can be only one" situation and resulting ultra-convoluted plans piling up on each other, all the better, because I am a sucker for that poo poo. Death Note comes pretty close, but doesn't really have the emotional core in it and is a little smaller-scale than I'd like, what with largely focusing on mind games between two people at a time, and not like 20 people at a time. Fate/stay night and Fate/zero are even closer to the mark and would work perfectly, if I hadn't watched both UBW and F/z like six times each already and played through the entire literally-longer-than-War-and-Peace VN twice. They aren't quite as fast-paced and they don't have the occasional moments of "uh okay did this plot element just sneak in from a totally different show" MN does, but otherwise they hit everything perfectly, including the whole "everyone is constantly scheming against everyone else" bit. Is there anything else out there like this, or am I basically hosed?
