That said, you have to say at a certain point that a leftist (in an American context even a mild social democrat) just isn't going to have much of a chance going forward in American politics at a national level. To me this is a very clear statement that the DNC is going to run the primary their way and for their own goals. I do think Perez was put up because of a fear that under Ellison that Sanders and his supporters would have a bit more influence, and once Perez won there was going to be a purge/firewall to make sure the DNC keeps its current course. I still hear in D&D pretty consistently that you "vote in the primary for the candidate you want and then for the one that wins" but if the system is entirely rigged and unfixable, then kind of what is the point? I think left-wing people need a plan B and it can't be the Democratic Party (at least the Federal level). (I also don't think a third-party is an option other than an organization to rally around.) I would argue that the continual existence of caucuses does more to rig the system than any other action the DNC does. When less than 10% of your voters actually show up and the act of voting itself takes 2-3 hours you're going to exclude a ton of people who care, but have other things to attend to (school, job, kids, spouse, etc) And yet you don't see very much complaining about the undemocratic nature of those. Wonder why.

Any good faith efforts to work with them will just be used and abused. I just wish I had an idea on what plan B was. I know it's defeatist but maybe the half of the country that doesn't vote is right. What's the point? Maybe we're better just pouring our efforts into charities to make people's lives slightly less lovely as the world burns down instead of trying to work with an entity that's hellbent on keeping us out in hopes they might rule over the ashes.
