I took a military history class in college with a focus on this war. I remember the super conservative professor who was teaching a bunch of ROTC blockheads and a couple of clowns like me who thought "oh that sounds interesting" still feeling compelled to say 'look you can't judge a general by what he's ordered to do' because this war was such an obvious land grab.

Prof absolutely loved Winfield Scott and thought he was brilliant, but I've completely forgotten why.

Right now I am reading about how France wanted to side with the Confederacy and had even drawn up some loose plans where the Confederacy would help France's bid to colonize Mexico in return for recognition. It never happened because France didn't want to join the Confederacy without Britain also joining and bad feelings between British and French scuttled that idea. Also Britain secretly aided the Confederacy by building ships for them

In the spring of 1925 he had already begun a campaign to win the affections of a beautiful girl whom he met in Dinard, on a golfing holiday with his battalion colonel. Loath to waste time, the innocent 37-year-old Major Montgomery proposed to the innocent 17-year-old music student, Betty Anderson, at the end of his first dance with her, giving rise to a reckless series of proposals which Betty turned down, to the disappointment of her parents who saw Montgomery as a man with a future.

Well there's a bunch of them and they're in archives in the LP forum, and he tends to do wargames from a lot of different historical eras.
Lemme see, uh...

The current War in the Pacific: Day by Day thread. This one is playing out the entire pacific theater of WWII, one in-game day per real day, from the Japanese side. As a successor to the epic War in the Pacific thread that successfully completed the entire war from the Allied side.
Crown of Glory is europe in 1792
Silent Hunter 4 is submarines in the pacific theater in WWII
Here's a civil war one with AEOGD, which I guess was the later Forge of Freedom thread with goons vs. goons roleplaying. I suspect this is old enough that a lot of the images are waffleimaged. There's links in there to the individual North and South threads.

The threads I was thinking of included his original Forge of Freedom thread, but I'm having trouble finding it. The LP Archive only has war in the pacific, war in the east, and jutland.

Where is the alternative history series where the BPP goes back and hooks up with John Brown and leads a defeat and secession of the South the real way. Just Playa Haters in Time up and down the cotton belt.

Fred Hampton first president of the Confederacy.
