Free to play accounts can play any class now. You are restricted to 2 character slots, a couple hundred AAs, rank 1 spells, apprentice II mercs (worthless) and you can only chat in the NewPlayers chat channel.

Level a healer with your warrior and stick to old school content and you shouldn't feel too much pain until higher levels.

I laughed really really hard when my EQ guild lost 120 people to wow and a solid 80 of them came back because of how bad MC and BWL were. Followed up by AQ40 which is to this day the worst raid blizzard has ever made.
Guess we just disagree, but seriously, EQ raids to this day are more braindead than any Vanilla WoW raid. Just look at the complexity of some of the AQ40 raids such as Twin Emps or C'thun. Everything in EQ is just stupid in comparision.

And alas, not two-thirds of people who jumped ship to WoW did return to EQ. :)

There are very few restrictions these days. I've tried, for fun, to level a 4-box of F2P twinks, and did fine up to around lvl 60 where I got bored, the only nag was the occasional pop-up advertising subscriptions. On my main lvl 100 4-box team, I only sub for my Monk and Shaman, and have F2P (actually the old Silver type accounts) Ranger and Wizard, and they are still super useful and powerful. At higher levels you just do the trick with subscribing for one month, reap auto-grant, and grind the poo poo out of AAs until maxed for your level. Other than that, you can buy a shop item that lets you use rank 2 spells, and non-prestige gear is still fine for a casual boxer like me, I can even craft a lot of it at lvl 100 for a few thousand plat.

You can also buy a Doll of Character from the loyalty merchant in PoK in order to permanently gain up to 3 extra character slots to your F2P account.

...Well I've got to put something!
Ok thats great news. I have no problem subscribing later, but I didn't want to have to pick a class I didn't want to play. If you can pick all classes from the start on silver, then I'll go that route for awhile just to see if I still like the game.

AQ40 wasn't bad because of some nebulous concept of "complexity". AQ40 was bad because it was straight up broken, overtuned, and overloaded with respawning trash that would unpredictably dunk your entire raid. Oh, this guy spawned with the Meteor ability, guess we're all loving dead.

I like wow quite a bit - I frequently get insulted in the wow subforum for playing the game too much - but vanilla had an abysmal raid scene that didn't pick up until around the middle of BC, when the guilds that cared hit Black Temple and the guilds that didn't had Karazhan to play around in.

BWL was a great raid for it's time Rag in MC was also a lot of fun but MC looking back had far too much trash pulls, still really fun for it's time.

I stopped playing WoW after BC came out bc I didn't have time anymore. I came back to EQ 15 years later because it was free. Playing a rogue in WoW was fuckin aces. I could sap-select my fights and take on four even-con mobs and then escape if i got ads. I could spec swords and tear poo poo up. Then spec daggers and gently caress UP single targets. Battlegrounds were fun as poo poo.

I remember playing a rogue in vanilla EQ and around level seven figuring out that I couldn't even play the game as a half-elf rogue. One blue bear or goblin would annihilate me.

I didn't have time always to get a group. WoW was the superior game if you wanted a rogue that felt like a bad-rear end 🙏.

I couldn't wear a set of banded without becoming near encumbered with loot. Blackened Iron was right out.

I personally feel like the best thing about WoW was the solo game. I played a rogue when I played EverQuest back in the day, and I hated that I had to sit there asking for groups for an hour+ sometimes just to play the game in any capacity. I moved on over to WoW during the open beta and I was like OH MY GOD I CAN SOLO HOLY poo poo.

If by this you mean Everquest, then I agree. Even twelve years ago just about everyone who played hardcore was three or four boxing any time they wanted to actually go out and fight poo poo. Progression servers limit this to an extent but progression servers are also a clownshoe sideshow where people get to re-live the horrors of yesteryear.

If we're talking Everquest, especially live everquest, you can be extremely successful no matter how anti-social you are.

I did a brief 4 box stint on test after not having played since my rogue during LDON. I had so much fun being able to play without the assistance of others.

Re: wow, yeah it has definitely gotten antisocial but I was mostly okay with that since I was mostly playing during work with the exception of raid nights. World quests were awesome for filling the gaps in a slow work day.

Essentially AoS just reformed under the name name Wild Treasures without Grisvok. The officer core got fed up with him not listening or budging on things and basically said gently caress that and everyone went with them. AFAIK the only person who quit was Grisvok.

New dkp system based on time instead of boss kills, 40% raid attendance to remain member, old dkp was carried over and basically stat squished in to new system. (3000 old dkp is now roughly ~235 dkp with new system).

wild-treasures.com is new website and thats about it I think.

Evernoob

Hour time dkp is just better. If such a thing as "progression raids" with little chance on loot still existed people actually show up. Double dkp/hour can also be a thing.

Otherwise people only show up on raids with the most bossDKP/hour.

Agnarr Talk : totally sick of raiding atm. Our guild can barely get 60ppl in the raid on prime nights.
But I guess that's normal as we've been raiding pretty much the same content for 4 months now.
Velious will be better, it should, it is....right?

Yeah it should be, until everyone realizes its just more of the same fighting MotM mobs for no real reason, slogging through NToV however often you do it. At least there are new quests and tradeskills to work on!

Its not as bad as Kunark, but it can still be pretty sloggy. Luckily we had Quarm server to break up our Velious time or we prob would have lost a lot more people to Velious I think.

PORKCHOP SANDWICHES
Well once Agnarr gets to LDON, those only take 54 people anyways! So 60 is fine.

And honestly, if you're tired of the same content after 4 months, Agnarr might not be the best fit, server-wise for you.

Velious does get better - a lot better, IMO. That's when gear actually starts to be good. It has good normal stats and resists, on the same pieces! You'll have Kael, Dain, and Yeli to all kill weekly and compete for open world. Then there's NTOV which is a crap ton of way too long fights because MOTM is a terrible, terrible loving thing. As well as HoT farming during offnights for armor, and the mountain of BiS poo poo for...poo poo I just blanked on his name, but that dragon in ToV, that you put the quest pieces together with from the named drakes. Then there's the Fear revamp, with CT's new great loot. Then there's Shawl and Ring to work on, with the last step(s) needing small-to-medium raids to do.

Also constantly fixing faction so you can turn in armor pieces and quest items.

So yeah, tons and tons of stuff to raid in Velious. Plus hitting up older content if needed, wrapping up epics on slow players / boxes, etc.

There recent banwave was interesting - 2 friends got banned for account sharing (though not with each other). One was unbanned when he added the 2 factor authentication, and the other is very much still banned.

I think one who is still banned used a PL service so I'm guessing thats the account sharing that got him.

From what I hear from guildmates that basically live on the redguides board, if you've ever shown signs of suspicious account activity, you're at risk of being banned until you add 2-factor authentication.

And even then, if you add 2-factor, you can get banned again and this time they won't do anything about it.

For whatever reason, they've had enough of the shady PLing and RMTing going on and are cracking down on it. A former guild member who went on to be like super king man casino and Kronolord on Agnarr isn't just banned, he's IP banned and Daybreak sent him an email saying 'you need to find another company to fulfill your gaming needs.' and that they will never unban him. He created a new account and it was banned less than 24 hours later, even though he created it and didn't even play it for several hours.

Since when did dbg get 2-factor auth?

Hold The Ashes
Sep 17, 2017
I don't think it's krono related because in the last few weeks I've flipped over $1,200 of them in the last 2-3 weeks, some even to Xolve who didn't know I was a goon until now, and haven't had anything happen to me even though I did it all on a brand new account.

Krycek posted:

They just added it and I think that's the real problem, most people using MQ bypass the launcher so if you tried to directly log into the game skipping it then it would give you a ban message instead of the more elaborate one you get for not having set up 2FA, so a lot of people were posting "I've been banned!" because DBG wasn't sending emails or anything saying you need to get 2FA, if you were logging in the right way then it was just a popup saying "this account needs to be set up with 2FA if you want to keep using it".

Then, I think, a lot of people on RG put in phone numbers that were tied to accounts that had been permabanned in the past and they just got their newer accounts banned too once DBG realized they were the same person. DBG was actually smart about the 2FA too because you have to use a real phone number to authenticate, they don't accept virtual numbers.

Of course you can't post anything logical like this on RG because half of them are convinced the lead GM is leading a virtual crusade against them and is investigating every trade their character has ever made and if you were ever given a krono for anything whatsoever your account is totes gonna get banned.

Hey guys, my brother in law is playing on Agnarr as his very first mmo ever. He has literally never played an mmo before (he's a bit older, mid 40's). I was playing but have since stopped since I have no time to play. It's been fun seeing him learn the game. He didn't know how to chat or anything when he started. He's playing a cleric and last I heard he was level 40. His name is Gann if anyone want's to help show him the ropes. I think it would be fun for him to group with some cool/fun/good players. He was in lguk and I sent him on his way to Karnor's Castle. He may or may not have made it as he hasn't really figured out travel yet.

Also, I sort of feel like an rear end in a top hat having him start with EQ instead of Guild Wars 2 or WoW.

I don't know about the summoned pet names, but there is a guild called Gann. He picked Gann without any input from myself and I didn't know the guild existed until I started /who all Gann for him. LOL, yeah I guess I am. Node, I was thinking of writing up in the Pantheon thread about his experiences with EQ (I figured it would be relevant there, plus the thread has changed recently). It's pretty funny because he'll call me every few days to ask me EQ questions, I mean he literally doesn't know any of the mechanics, agro, healing agro, trains, etc. The first call I got from him was during character creation, he was asking why he couldn't change the look of his character. He specifically mentioned Skyrim and wanted to know where all the sliders were. He's also not much of a gamer, so that add's to his confusion.
