Popete posted:Are people using the auto-feeders? I'm not that far so I haven't unlocked a lot of turrets yet but I usually go for the high damage turret instead of the lower damage auto-feeder. I just use my engineer to run ammo around during fights. I like having one for the tail gunner, since that's usually the first station to run dry and the hardest to get to. I don't use them on any of the other stations. My engineer is often too busy fixing stuff to run ammo! I make the other gunners get their own; really quick for the waist locations. Nice thing about that is that the gunners will return from the ammo box to their stations automatically, so you can move on to other things as soon as you give the order. This game is awesome! But at $12.74, it's too inexpensive to be grog. Immersion ruined. Tetraptous fucked around with this message at 19:14 on Oct 20, 2017 |

Its so refreshing for a niche game like this that I've been looking forward too and it comes out not in early access and doesn't suck or is only half complete.

Speaking of cool niche wargames, the Armored Commander roguelike just added the ability to play as a Polish tank. Like the note about how non-ASCII characters in Polish names were a programming issue.

Pink's War was an air-to-ground bombardment and strafing campaign carried out by the Royal Air Force, under the command of Wing Commander Richard Pink, against the mountain strongholds of Mahsud tribesmen in South Waziristan in March and April 1925.

This game seriously needs a option to toggle on a warning when you order the pilot out his seat. I keep sending him to the back of the plane to fix something instead of the engineer and by the time I notice the plane is diving too steeply for anyone to be able to get back in the seat.

I lost a landing gear. I was expecting a belly landing but I got a fireball and a dead bombardier. Would an emergency landing preserve the plane?

skooma512 posted:I lost a landing gear. I was expecting a belly landing but I got a fireball and a dead bombardier. Yes. The pilot will, if you hit emergency landing, try and take a slow and measured descent to the ground / sea that prevents the bomber from wiping out on landing, which may well have saved your plane. Unless you hit a tree, admittedly, as others have said. Then, you're just hosed. The first bit's true even with one landing gear, mind; the plane will still bounce hard, but it will be going slowly and onto the wing rather than the fuselage, which should save the crew some pain. So, Bomber Crew is seriously brilliant. And I've got some thoughts I've had from my time so far: - Never, ever, ever, put off buying good engines and guns. Seriously, I now realise that I've essentially wasted all the early-game money I spent into armouring up my first few bombers because they couldn't kill poo poo, which makes all that extra plating irrelevant when the enemy can just whittle you down. - As part of that, always try for the optional recon photos if you can. The cash injection from them is pretty drat necessary, sadly. - Treasure any Navigator you get to Level 4. Custom Marker is a godsend; not for dodging hazards as such if you've got to go low, but for breaking up enemy waves. Because (so far as I've seen) fighters spawn in when you get close to objectives and start attack runs, you can use a custom marker to break off after hitting one target on a multiple-target mission, deal with the current wave, and then go back to the next objective with no fighters around to help the fresh wave. - The game does a bad job of telling you when the Luftwaffe begins teching up, but keep your eyes peeled for the rough airframe shape and colours. The Bf110 / Hs129 lookalike that shows up after the second critical mission and always tries to belly chase you means you must have some kind of ventral gun after that mission, even a bad one just to spook it into another gun's arc, or you're buggered if one shows up. - Be careful about ditching at sea. Another thing the game never tells you is that it does model the seas shallowing out near coasts well. I lost an entire level 5+ crew when the pilot was making a perfectly good sea landing near Dover ... only for the plane to hit a shallow, flip out and explode. Total crew loss. - Don't underestimate Tier 1 pigeons and dinghys. They're quite light, but they are a real help for the rescue odds on crew members who probably won't wear survival gear, like gunners, if you managed to successfully ditch. - gently caress aces, for all time. Admittedly, this is partly down to what I said at the start, as I lacked gunpower to kill them, but I notice if they break off damaged instead of being shot down they WILL spawn in a wave of fighters to attack you as a last spiteful measure. - At the start of a mission, before take off, make sure all your gunners grab ammo. Another thing the game never explicitly says is that while your turrets start with 2 spare belts of ammo, they can hold 3. No reason not to max it out before take off. - Same thing goes for Radio for Recon, if your Radio Op is Level 3+. I'll stop there before I carry on too much, but God, this game is fun.

another tip: your engineer is the only crewman that can train up pilot as their secondary skill so it's probably best not to waste it on something else in case your actual pilot gets killed

Are you guys using parachutes at all? I've been focusing on plane survivability and DPS so far but it seems like a given that the plane is going to go down eventually, so maybe I should focus on just keeping guys alive. I'm considering bringing parachutes for at least the radioman, navigator, and engineer.

the only time I used parachutes the game thought I was bailing out over sea so I lost all but two of my crew. I only equipped them when I had the 3x storage bays installed. I'd rather have first aid kits

First aid kits become less vital after you've got a couple crewmembers trained in first aid, but I'd still prioritize them over parachutes, at least until you have a reasonable number. I've only had occasion to use parachutes once though, and things were so hectic that I have no idea who grabbed what when I gave the order to bail out. With 6 parachutes on board, I lost the bombardier, navigator, and radio operator. The bombardier had been manning the tail gun when the tail broke off, and I think the other two were already unconscious when everyone bailed out. Maybe the parachutes saved everyone else, or maybe it was the life preservers and rubber dinghy? This game could give a bit more feedback. I also wish I had more airframes to choose from than just the Lancaster.
