It finally happened, nzb.su is reverting old Friend accounts (from donations when they first started up) to regular accounts. These have been grandfathered into VIP accounts for years. I forget what I paid them back in the day, maybe 20 bucks or something, back in 2011. They emailed Friends asking for $25 for 4 years of VIP or you can otherwise just go into the regular VIP program (which I'd imagine costs more). I'll probably roll my own newznab some day but I've got enough projects right now so I paid for the 4 years of VIP.

How does rolling your own newnznab work in the modern obfuscated world? Seems like NZB.su has a lot of obfuscated stuff that doesn't hit most indexers.

Considering how many sites do this lately, it's worth looking into rolling your own  I also look for specific stuff so that might be another good reason. Does anyone know how much data it eats? Stupid Cox and their data caps.

I delete my videos after I've watched them, but sometimes Sonarr will go ahead and re-download them. How can I tell it to stop? I know there's a setting somewhere for this, because it's not doing it in every case, but I just can't figure out what I've done differently for the ones where it downloads once and never again.

Is it redownloading them, or is it upgrading them? You can set a cutoff quality or tell it not to download better quality files, and at the bottom of Media Management in settings, you can tell it to ignore deleted files.

If it is black, it means it is tracking (so will search and d/l missing episodes even if they have been watched and deleted). Clear means it is not tracking.

I index 44 groups that I found just be googling around for good binary groups. I've been running it for 5ish years and my db and newznab data directories are using ~10GB. Note that it took me a long time to get up to these 44 groups, so I don't really know what the data storage requirements would be if I was running 44 groups for that whole time. In the last 30 minutes of indexing it's downloaded 2.02 GB. Mid-morning in America on a Thursday isn't exactly prime usenet activity time, though.

The main advantage of the paid version is that you get a shitton more capability because it comes with a bajillion more regexes that are constantly updated. The regexes are how it parses release names. I don't really know how the search differs between sphinx and not-sphinx because I pretty much never search. It just feeds RSS feeds to radarr and sonarr. I can't remember the last time I actually went into the web interface.

Ahh ok good, so the paid version has a bunch of regex stuff for deobfuscation/tagging etc already done? I hate regex so that was mainly why I was avoiding my own newznab. I guess I will look more into this, I only spend like $20 a year on indexers but I guess I could save that money. I keep waiting for nzbs.org to die too, worried because I get like 80% of my grabs from it.

The free version of newznab is basically useless. I only run my own copy of newznab for the eventuality of whatever other indexers I use disappearing.

nZEDb is a free fork of newznab that pretty much covers all of nn's paid functions. I've just recently recommissioned an i3 machine that was sitting idle as a dedicated indexer, only 5 groups going back about 45 days at the moment, but it's doing a good job so far. I need to sit down and research some groups to expand it a bit.

I installed nZEDb, activated a group and now I'm the proud owner of a bunch of hashes that range in size from 300MB to 5GB. Yay me. After some days of monitoring I'll probably add more groups just to see if there's anything out there besides those hashes. One question: so far I was only able to update nZEDb using screen and the shell scripts. The tmux scripts wouldn't work for some reason (tmux wouldn't find sessions). Is newznab the same with updating (same style, screen+bash) or do they actually use cron like a normal person? Or do they run the scheduler internally?

I see stuff posted on the usergroup IRC two minutes after it's done, but it's not on indexers for another 15 at least.

Ignore deleted episodes doesn't prevent replacing with higher quality files as they become available. You might want to make sure that's not what's happening.
