I got my DIY GIMX adapter built tonight. After a hair raising experience where I snapped the micro usb port off the arduino and having to re-solder it on to the board, it works great. I have it housed in a generic project box, so its just a nondescript dongle. The hardest part was: 1) Being dumb and snapping the USB port off with my caveman strength 2) Finding out just how loving many of my micro usb cables are charge only 3) Getting the PS4 controller recognized by my laptop. Turns out just plugging it in isnt enough, you have to unbind it from the ps4 Once I got it all up and running it was really smooth. Now that the work is done, next time it will be like 20 seconds of setup and I'm good. The wheel is (as far as I can perceive) just as responsive as it is when playing games plugged straight into the PC. There is no lag at all, and no loss of resolution on the wheel or pedals. I tried it on Driveclub, since I dont have GT Sport yet, and it works awesome. It took Driveclub from a game I actively disliked to a game I kinda like. If you're on the fence, or you want to play GT Sport with an unsupported wheel, I highly recommend the GIMX adapter, works great!

I need a lot of practice keeping up with pacenotes though, I nearly killed some poor bastard's mailbox in Ouninpohja. On the other hand the dirt rallying in GTS is absolute garbage.

Which I already have and would have regardless of GTS. Iracing would be another subscription on top of that. For me it’s more about one less subscription.

I'm sure it's fine. My wheel setup doesn't work with ps4 atm, and i didn't like the demo with controller

GT Sport is an interesting departure from the car collectathon I know and love. It looks pretty but seems to be lacking in tracks, I hope they haven't messed up GT in the long run and more content comes at some point.

I think they may have purposefully aimed it at people who haven't played GT before. I haven't, to my regret, and I'm enjoying it - however the traditional concept of GT is appealing and I'm tempted to track down a PS3 just to play the older ones.

Don't worry about the PS3 ones, both GT5 and GT6 were kinda lacking. GT2 is the one everyone raves about but imo GT4 is still the golden point of the series.

I'm looking to buy a console for racing games. I ewant to get one of those high end racing wheels to use instead of a controller. As of now I'm leaning towards a Thrustmaster T300 RS GT and a PS4 Pro. I like that wheel because it also works with PC (which I don't have yet, but plan to get some day). Does the Xbox One have better racing games? Also, are there any racing wheels or racing games worth a drat that work with Macs?

Forza is on PC now. That was pretty much it for Xbox racing games that are exclusive

Getting an xbox and Forza would allow you to move over to playing it on PC as you can transfer your save.

I think the consoles are about equal in terms of racing games; Xbox has Forza, Playstation has GT Sport, both have Project Cars and Assetto Corsa and the F1/Dirt series. iRacing used to have a Mac client but I think it's been discontinued. Automobilista might run pretty well in a VM since it's DX9. PS4 now and PC later, imo.

What are people's thoughts on what seems like the red headed step child of driving games - Drive Club? I got it with my PS4 ages ago but never played it, is it any good, what's the deal with it? No one ever mentions it

It's an alright racing game, they did a lot post-launch to right the ship after it launched broken as gently caress but it's nothing special.

Drive Club is fantastic. Lots of cars, great tracks and plays really well with the simulation/hardcore driving mode option. For a launch game, it’s still visually astonishing.

What has everyone done for their sim rigs? I'm likely going to build something based off the simul8r setup (PVC) but I have tools and could certainly make something out of wood for probably much cheaper (though it would likely look way shittier).

I have an Obutto Ozone and don't recommend it unless you want something to take up too much space and be heavy enough to make moving it a pain in the rear end.

I've just a bought a massive stupid house so will have like four spare rooms so I'll be making a nerd pit soon, hopefully move next week. It's sort of liberating with VR not being tied to be in front of a monitor, opens up a load of options

I just built this a week or so ago, AMApeter gabriel posted:What are people's thoughts on what seems like the red headed step child of driving games - Drive Club? With a Dualshock controller it is hot garbage. I found it unmanageable. With a wheel it’s actually pretty fun. It has a lot of content, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it go really cheap now that GT Sport is taking the “big PS4 racing title” spotlight away from it.

You have to be the only person with that complaint. Driveclub is perfect on a gamepad. With the default handling mode on, the cars drive weird when the assists cut in. That’s not the fault of the controls, though, and can be turned off.

I mean, yeah it’s all subjective. I did not like the way it handles at all with the controller.m, but I like it significantly more with the wheel

I already had a seat so I bought this and stuck it on there. Very solid and I like the driving position even if it's a tiny bit annoying to hop in and out of since it's so low to the ground. I'm sure you could DIY something similar for much cheaper but I'm a total dumbass when it comes to that stuff. Eyud fucked around with this message at 23:03 on Oct 23, 2017 |

Unfortunately a bit out of my price range, but if I continue to use/enjoy whatever I end up building I may be able to justify a much nicer setup down the line. I agree about the height. Since this will live in my basement and historically I have gotten water down there during severe rain, I was planning to build a "lifted" setup where it's an additional 10" or so off the ground. It would actually work out pretty well because I have a TV wall mounted down there already and that would be getting close to the right height, I think. Thanks for the information, all!
