DS9 did the holodeck much better. Quark knew why most people were using it.
Though DS9 did have a B plot that focuses on Quark trying to get a holoimage of Kira so a weird dude she told off could bone her.

And thank god for that B plot. The A plot for that episode (Meridian) is one of the worst of the series, so at least the B plot doesn't make it a total waste.

Are you kidding me? If anything after having gone through this I'm going to mock the poo poo out of anyone critiquing Orville or Discovery on the basis of them not matching up to TNG . Season 1 has for the most part of been pure insanity and that it's played completely straight with dramatic commercial break stingers just makes it even funnier. It's one goofy rear end show and it is massively entertaining for what it is.

EDIT: 10/10 would binge again

I thought Star Trek Continues was pretty decent. The sets and writing were great. The actors were pretty bleh but good luck replacing guys like Shatner or Nimoy.

I agree, in some ways it was a step in the right direction. In another they basically committed genocide so... :(

Killing the crew of 1 spaceship isn't committing genocide. What do you think happens when the Enterprise blows up spaceships? They actually stopped the Krill from committing genocide.

Continues looks really good, like bang on almost all the time, and the actors by and large aren't completely awful which is all you can really hope for when they're just aping previous, better actors. And its heart is in the right place which is good to see. But the scripts aren't great and there are weird pacing issues in almost every episode. As far as fan productions go I think that's about as good it will ever get, it's seriously impressive as a passion project.

Genocide is killing a large group of people. Killing them by UV poisoning definitely felt more like the Changeling Virus or Hugh's virus and I have a hard time seeing a captain aside from Janeway or Lorca making that exact call. Though I'm not sure any member of the Orville beyond Isaac had a better option... I will give the show credit for mentioning that McFarlane (what's the captain's name again?) has only continued the cycle of violence.

The Enterprise normally only blows up ships they're actively engaged with or at war with, which is different from covertly murdering them, even to stop genocide.

It's not, hth.

Genocide is the act of trying to kill a group (racial/religious/national/etc) entirely or in part. That part has to be pretty significant, and one ship does not qualify.

So... if they blew up the ship with a bomb, it isn't genocide, but since they exploited a weakness in their species, it is?

Hmmm ok, we're redefining words now I see.

It wasn't even a preemptive attack, the Krill already launched the missile. They had no time to try and reason with them, and if they did, they would have failed. If they didn't do anything, lots of innocent people would have died.

Yeah. They're definitely the best fan films ever made. Granted, that's not saying much as fan productions are usually godawful, but Star Trek Continues is actually worth watching if you're a fan of TOS and want more.

Moriatti
Apr 21, 2014

In the interest of saving time the dictionary I checked (google) listed it as mass murder specifically targeting a group (in this case Krill), I can see why you wouldn't count one ship and I'll walk back on that because I done goofed there.

They did launch the missile after the timer was set.

It would not have been better to blow the ship up with a bomb (their original plan), it would've been better to not murder everyone but they were written into a position where that wasn't an option.

My point is they've killed a poo poo ton of people and would've killed a poo poo ton of children if they hadn't lucked out out on befriending the ship teacher. That's pretty dark.
