Isn't this a zero-interest loan? I guess they just hide the financing in the monthly bill.

Not to mention its a better system then the old way of subsidizing phones and hiding the monthly payment in your bill which basically forces you to buy a new subsidized phone when your contract is up otherwise you're paying more for the device.

You'd be stupid to buy the iPhone X outright if you can get the AUP loan. Considering 2017 dollars are worth more than 2019 dollars, and ~$1000 invested now should earn about 5-7% unless everything goes to poo poo, it's basically a discount on the phone. Zero-interest fixed loans with no gotchas are fantastic. Now, if you can't afford it and actually have to go into debt to buy an iPhone X, you probably shouldn't. But if you can afford it, and someone offers you a 0% loan, there is no reason not to take it. I don't believe in buying a new phone every year, that's silly IMO, but that's another topic entirely - whether your 1 year old phone can sell for more on the used market than 12 months of payments. Usually iPhones can, so trading it in at the 12 month mark doesn't make much sense.

Pivo is correct that doing the AUP and taking the free loan makes a lot of sense, but the only caveat to that is that if you do the 12-month turn-in (which is why many people do the AUP), you do lose the cost of half a year of AppleCare. fordan fucked around with this message at 22:49 on Oct 23, 2017 |

The AppleCare+ is also financed, so you only pay for one year of AppleCare+ if you turn it in each year (the other year is in the portion of the financing you don’t pay.) (The hardware warranty for the first year is free, but not the accidental damage coverage which is the majority of the cost anyway. Also, you wind up being allowed two incidents per year instead of two every two years, since it’s a new AppleCare+ each time.)

You also need to be on one of the major carriers. I'd love to take advantage of it but carrier prices are still too expensive for my blood.

From the small print on the iPhoneX page quote:Available to qualified customers with a credit check and eligible U.S. credit card. Requires a 24-month installment loan with a 0% APR from Citizens Bank, N.A. (subject to any interest, fees, or other costs payable to the issuer of the credit card), purchase of AppleCare+, and iPhone activation with one of these national carriers: AT&T, Sprint, or Verizon. Activation on T-Mobile available in the Apple Store. Sales tax and any applicable fees due at time of purchase. Now, if you used a credit card, obviously you'll pay for any interest accrued on the card (or just pay off the drat bill within 30 days). Or you can do what I do and have a separate checking account *just* for recurring payments like this and use the debit/check card. I just figure out how much per month I need in the second account for all the different services and figure out how much to direct deposit from paycheck. It works great for any service or purchase that needs a recurring unchanging payment like Netflix, Hulu, Cable Internet, etc.. AUP would work perfect with this. The calculator is buggy too, if you type math operators too fast it ignores them. Spam 3+3+3+3 as fast as you can to see it. Pretty soon you'll be adding 33's.

I'm not so sure that's a bug, but it sure is a bad experience, and it makes a whole lot more sense why I was having trouble using it before.

So I have optimize photo gallery on, and have the thug where whenever I open a photo I literally just took it has to download it, but according to my storage settings I have upwards of 7GB of photos on my phone. Is there any way I can see what is actually on my device or if it’s some obscenely large video or something?

edited to clarify: for some reason, after migrating to my new 8 I am unable to update my passcode to iCloud. I have a notification in settings that I need to update my apple id settings. It would appear this is updating my passcode to iCloud (not sure why this is uploaded?). I tried doing a new restore, changing my passcode first, turning off iCloud and turning it back on, disabling my passcode (which resulted in the update request disappearing), re-enabling, and lots of yelling. Any idea what the gently caress I need to do? It doesn't seem like anything isn't working as a result of this so I'm not sure what hot new features I'm missing out on.
