You can email Cisco which is better than nothing. Though they often take every opportunity to call you on the phone anyways, schedule a WebEx, or close your case.

To be fair, Cisco stuff is almost always under some kind of warranty anyway. It would be nice to be able to verify that at least - if it's not under warranty, I can just push the ticket off to account management and get it the heck out of our queue.

Didn't know I could do Cisco RMAs entirely by email though, what is the address to get that started?

The bank deposit software has been a massive pain in the rear end requiring specific versions of java and updating seemingly at random and never to the newest version and always checking for an exact match. It wont tell you so when they update it's a mess of trying every version that has been released since the last one.

They released a stand alone program this month! It requires UAC to be disabled and local admin :smith: It's 2017 how does software just released require this.

Sounds about par for any telco company. We went to transfer an 800 number from a company that we acquired a division it took 4 months because it required notice from both parties between 20 and 30 days before the time of transfer no more no less and someone would always go early or late, or right the wrong date. They also required a bill that was no more than 45 days old at the date of transfer but had to be submitted with the other paper work narrowing down when you could transfer and most of the problems were on the other company who kept complaining that they were getting calls for us and that they were paying for the 800 number.

We were charged the transfer fee for every attempt, which was around 8 or 9. Cost several grand to transfer that drat number.

It is amazing how universally horrible those programs are. I have three different customers who use check scanners and every one of them has a different variant of this same thing. Three distinct check scanners, three distinct banks, three distinct applications sitting in the middle. All Java, all requiring random versions, and all requiring a convoluted install process where they really try their hardest to get you to disable all meaningful security.

How they all manage to gently caress up in exactly the same way boggles the mind.

HP's website sucks and is garbage, but they do have a just-the-serial warranty check page.

As a bonus, it'll give you the product number for the serial in question - if it doesn't give you 404 or a random 500-ish server error. If you have CSN access, http://partsurfer.hp.com will give you detailed info on how a system was actually built - we use it to look up feature bytes.

I found the actual issue. The WebEx player has some hosed up issue where it only pushes to certain audio devices even if you have multiple. My headphone port? Silence. My phone headset which is plugged in via USB? Sound. I can actually listen to Youtube on headphones and the file in question on my internal speakers at the same time cause :shrug:

I get recruiters for positions way out of my league. I know you're supposed to be willing to do trial by fire and take a job you're not 100% qualified for, but I'm not really qualified to be the network admin for a 249-location bank. I did explain that is something I would love to come in as a junior role and work my way up. Sorry, but my networking experience comes from places with only 5-10 locations.

You can email your SE or AM, but you can’t open it directly via mail sorry. My case prefs are all email but the engineers don’t like that. You can phone up 800-553-2447 and open one on the phone wherever you are, say you prefer email, then hang up. That’s about as good as it gets other than using the tool at Cisco.com/tac/caseopen .

RMA for things not on contract has to go through the phone for LLW.

Today we discovered our Marketing Manager set up a new website to grab details from our store owners for an upcoming conference. The details included passport details, and FULL CREDIT CARD INFO. The best part is that not only is the site not HTTPS, but when confronted, claimed it wasn't a problem, and everything would be fine.

Issue was escalated straight to C-levels for rectification before we get fined by the government, or sued by a store owner for leaking their details. Urgh.

Great work. Now you'll have to sleep with the fact you just got him promoted to Head of IT for being able to deliver a complete project, ahead of the delivery date, and 73% under the cost of what the TPM scoped the project for.

Where I work there are a bunch of consultants as well as regular employees--the consultants come into the same building to work and the only way to tell them apart from the employees is a different color name tag on the cube. The guy who owns one of the consulting firms is there so often he has his own cube and is basically a co-decision maker at the company.

There is another consulting firm that also has people there, same thing. They are in the same building as us (we have all but one floor of the building we're in, and they just happen to be on that floor. Also, the CEO's son works for them (in an unknown (to me) capacity--I don't think he works for us, but he's with that company at least).

So this second consulting company pitched this product to the higher ups. They got the contract to implement it. None of us (the infrastructure team, or the SAP Basis team either for that matter) were consulted in any way, and the product is garbage. Or, at least, the execution is. It became clear pretty quickly that they don't actually have a developed product, but an idea for one and apparently a good pitch man. They've missed every deadline, they keep making requests for servers and software to go on the servers... Which would be fine, but their original request asked for a bunch of SQL servers that they aren't even using (as one example). Today they asked for like 12 more servers that they needed yesterday.

The worst part of all of it is that nobody above us wants to tell the C-levels that the project has been a disaster. Not only that, but they make us jump through every hoop imaginable and treat any request from them as top priority so that we aren't "to blame" for any of it failing. Including ignoring any procedures we have in place for tickets, RFCs, whatever.

They're clearly developing this product using our stuff so that they can sell it to other places. And I think that the CEO would pull the plug but nobody will tell him that he needs to.

Anyway tl;dr, i just wanted to rant somewhere

Our 'shipping manager' has no qualifications. She doesn't know anything about shipping, just calls and gets freight quotes from trucking companies.

We're setting up a new bill of lading form in this software, and it's funny what she insists be on the form. "We have to comply to the standards of the trucking companies we use!"

Funny thing is, none of the forms that the actual trucking companies allow you to use on their site, have any of the fields she wants to use/put on. These were all on the old form that someone made like 10 years ago. Makes our job easier because we're not sourcing data and complicating the form. But oh man is she raising a stink about it.

It's a theme in the company. People were trying to figure some stuff out in a production meeting, and I pointed out that we need someone with manufacturing experience to give some input. Person A is the owners kid, has never worked anywhere else and is new to the department. Person B is worthless and was 'promoted' from the floor and has only worked construction. Person C is an accountant who's never really worked anywhere else either.

I have -some- manufacturing experience and tried to introduce the concepts of having 'jobs' and 'workstations', but they just want to print out all the orders on 3 pieces of paper and have people work off those, and you can't have the inventory for all the jobs committed at the same time.

Production worker signs into a workstation, loads a 'job', inventory is allocated for that job, they close the job out, sign into a new job...

But of course that would never work. *hint* what we do now doesn't work.

My experience at a tiny flyspeck of a manufacturer had us emulating the "follower sheet" that real manufacturers would use. When a new unit starts production, it gets assigned a new serial number and a follower sheet. As it proceeds station to station, the worker basically ticks the boxes of the steps to build the item. We made a database that would automatically date each checkmark, and there was an attached failures table for the product failing testing and being sent for rework.

People have discovered that they can avoid doing anything they don't want to do by reporting the e-mail as a phishing message, and by the time the security teams gets back to them that it was legit, it's probably too late and someone else had to do it or the thing was left undone. I may lose my poo poo the next time I hear "oh that was a real e-mail? I reported it as phishing!"
