We talked about that, but as we are small, finding all that soil would be difficult. It's an option though!

Depending on the muni, you can get a filled truck bed of compost/topsoil for like 20-30 bucks from the city. I know they do that in Texas.

Of course you need a truck though.

soviet horror movies weren't really ever a thing, unfortunately. viy is the one movie that gets cited pretty regularly, but it's a pretty slow burn. it's based on an old folk tale, which is how it was able to get around the restrictions on more overt horror. for most people it's probably more abstractly interesting than it is scary, though it gets pretty wild in the last 10 mins.

westerns, however, the soviets were all about.

They Live makes a great quintology (is that a thing?) with The Stuff, Society, Repo Man, and if you can stand it, Street Trash.

to be honest I almost didn’t mention it since I haven’t seen Brazil in about 15 years, but I thought of bleak sci-fi capitalistic hellscape and it popped into my head.

There Will Be Blood is the best answer. Man who gains the wealth of the world but in so doing, loses his soul.

American Beauty has a fairly scathing portrayal of culture under capitalism and the liberation of a man who (temporarily) breaks free of it.

The Romero Dead trilogy are all about revolution and overthrowing the capitalist status quo

Land of the Dead is okay if you want to see the rich eaten

If you can find it Martin is also a great Romero movie that has great shots of post steel collapse Braddock

dawn of the dead is a hilarious sendup of american consumer and general "culture"

It does have Tom Savini's best work, one being where a guy gets his head ripped off and his screaming gets higher and higher as the vocal cords are stretched

Dawn is great because its filmed in my town's mall which had a memorial for Romero even though the whole point of the movie was how awful malls are as a concept.

Instead of an entire playthrough of an entire series, you could just watch The Guest. It's a stealth sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger that asks what a Captain America who actually represents America would be like.

(It is, incidentally, a serial kiler film.)
