Yes, the posters that were in such a rush to claim that bitcoin is literally nothing - not a currency, not a store of value, so overstated their claims that the very obvious conclusion that yeah, its a currency, makes it clear the rigor with which they reasoned.

but of course you don't see that as a win. Having people claim "its not a currency" vastly overstating and simplifying the issue, misleading others, and being proven wrong - that's precisely my issue with the buttcoin posters. They literally make up bs claims that a currency is not a currency for ecred / max posturing. That sucks.

This post is :qq: embodied. If we had a white knight one I’d add that.

And all the posts over the past year re: buttcoins are ignorance embodied. People making predictions and claims that the exchanges + bitcoins will collapse without knowing what they're talking about. The 20 minute transactions post is one among many. It will be fun bringing that up in a few months, and I expect some non answer, much like today.

"Monsters as they are," asked Cato in reference to stockjobbers, "what would you do with them? The Answer is short and at hand, Hang them."

A thousand stock-jobbers, well trussed up, besides the diverting sight, would be a cheap sacrifice to the Manes of trade; it would be one certain expedient to soften the rage of the people; and to convince them that the future direction of their wealth and estates shall be put into the hands of those, who will as effectually study to promote the general benefit and publick good, as others have, lately, most infamously sacrificed both to their own private advantage. Something is certainly due to both the former. The resurrection of honesty and industry can never be hoped for, while this sort of vermin is suffered to crawl about, tainting our air, and putting every thing out of course; subsisting by lies, and practising vile tricks, low in their nature, and mischievous in their consequences.

I love this interpretation of computing power, 'spare GPU cycles', as if your computer not constantly consuming the largest possible amount of electricity is just letting it go to waste

You sound like my friend who told me about this "awesome" website where you can download legit MP3s for pennies on the dollar. It turns out it was a Russian website, most likely run by a Russian mob outfit. He couldn't understand why I thought that was worse than just torrenting them for free, since his money was literally being used to fund a criminal enterprise. He felt like paying something was better than just pirating. Nothing I could tell him would change his mind.

https://motherboard.vice.com/en_us/article/ywbvqv/breitbart-advertising-sketchy-cryptocurrencies-through-newsletter

Motherboard posted:

Far-right media outlet Breitbart is emailing readers with an ad instructing them to invest in high-risk niche digital currencies.

An email sent out to Breitbart mailing list subscribers on Tuesday, which featured the Breitbart logo and "advertisement" in tiny grey text at the top of the email, tells readers that "The cryptocurrency market is RED HOT" and that digital currencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum have seen massive gains recently. "But that's NOTHING compared to the lightning-fast returns seen from dozens and dozens of little-known 'penny cryptocurrencies,'" the email continues.
Screengrab: Breitbart mailing list

The ad directs readers to a page hosted by Agora Financial, which media watchdog MediaMatters says is a conservative financial publication "notorious for sketchy sponsored emails pitched through the mailing lists of media personalities." The email text itself is signed by Robert Williams, publisher of Wall Street Daily, an outlet with links to Agora Financial, literally—the "premium research" links on their site send users to Agora Financial. However, the same text appears elsewhere on the web under the byline of an Agora Financial analyst.

The email informs readers about AllSafe, a digital token without a working website, a Twitter account that's been dormant since June, and the same name as a fake company in the show Mr. Robot. The email notes that AllSafe "skyrocketed by 15,808% in a. single day!" A digital coin called AMIS, currently worth about a fraction of a cent, "surged by 29,693%… OVERNIGHT!" the email says. The email also tells readers that some sort of cryptocurrency boom is expected to occur around November 15

Bitcoin almost back at $6000. Anyway it's not a store of value it's a way to exchange money without the government getting in the way.

If you decide to buy a bunch of Bitcoin as an investment you might as well go to a Vegas and do martingale betting on a high limit roulette table. At least you'll get a free room at the Mandalay Bay with the Vegas strat.
