Up here the government classifies me as indigenous non-aboriginal (for the purposes of affirmative action).

My mom was born outside of Canada and I still absolutely have ties to France, and so should be considered somewhat an immigrant, even though I was born here. I speak fluent France-French (despite having lived my whole life in BC), I have a French passport, regularly visit family back there and am allowed to vote in their elections. Why shouldn't there be a word for someone like us, who have ties to multiple countries, despite being born and living in the same one?

I'm actually pretty fascinated by all these immigrant generational classifications now.. Never something I thought of beyond first-generation immigrant and second-generation Canadian. Never realized or thought of all sorts of different classifications one might need for different scenarios. Interesting way to start my day.

Apparently the opioid epidemic is getting out of hand in Southern Ontario, Cambridge in particular. The owner of a retro video game store explains his reasons for moving his store to Waterloo. It really shows how the downtown core has gone to poo poo over the past few years: Mike Romagnoli posted:https://www.facebook.com/groups/1510450602325267/permalink/1527659250604402/ The group has lots of pics of scary needles and condom packs and they collected 100 needles during a 3 hour cleanup on October 21. That's probably quaint by Vancouver standards but Cambridge is a really small town

I mean, being from KW, this isn't surprising really. it's like as you move southward from Waterloo, to Kitchener, to Cambridge you can see society start to unravel. I used to get offended by kids from Toronto coming here for school talking about how downtown Kitchener is sketchy, but honestly, they probably have at least some of a point. gently caress. I work in downtown Kitchener and it has some level of sketch to it. Our landlord recently had to lock one of the entrances to our office building because a vagrant kept walking in and causing trouble. Apparently, this he can't figure out how to enter from the other side of the building because it seems to have solved the problem. Edit: Also, Kitchener is sketchy compared to Waterloo because that's where the support services are for the sketchy people. That's really the only reason.
