I was kinda worried that would be the case. Other than the few people I've added playing in pubs over the past few months, I have exactly 2 steam friends who play TF2, and they've both been in the competitive scene for years and are already on established teams. I guess I'll wait and hope that Valve gets their poo poo together with their competitive matchmaking.

Dropping the defense contracts requirements confirms what I was saying. The team doesn't actually play TF2, and has no idea how difficult and fortuitous those have to be.

Yeah, the amount of "defend the point" objectives you need is just silly. First of all, you have to be the first on the point to (sometimes) get it to trigger, and when it does actually trigger, it seems there is a 50-50 chance of it actually updating in the tracker.

I got done with most of the actual cap objectives in a round or two, but is still at 3/30 or 4/20 on most of the defend objective ones. I wonder how they came up with those numbers.

Edit: And of courses every map contract seems to have some kind of variation of these bonus objectives.

At least they actually fixed it this time instead of waiting 6+ months.

Something tells me they only play 6s internally, where getting a kill on a capping enemy is way more common than 12v12 pubs.

That's the thing. The dead ringer is annoying, but it doesn't make a bad spy suddenly good. They still had a lot of downtime if their DR got triggered, but now it takes so long to recharge and they're so vulnerable without a cloak while it's recharging that the DR now runs into the same trap as the cloak and dagger of encouraging spies to be poo poo and useless.

Except that teams full of demomen and soldiers are very effective at playing the objectives in TF2.

and it didn't let me turn it in, it completely ignored it. The beep beeped and the text went yellow in game but when I opened my pda it still said 2 out of 3!

The contracts are kind of hosed in general. Even when they're not bugged they're asking for way too goddamn much. Extinguishing people with the jetpack is not gonna happen because of how they've crippled afterburn.

also lol with how poo poo afterburn is now the degreaser feels like a straight upgrade to stock again

Still having fun in this game a decade later.

The best part of the update is the new flamethrower particles which are accurate.

I've had fun with the contracts. The trick to doing a defense objective is to get with a friend to double your chances of proccing it.

If you don't have any TF2 friends, just ask for one in a pub. Every two or three games, there is a 12 year old who is as good as you, even if you're amazing at this game, and he'll happily play with you at any loving hour. The price will be someone talking your ear off.

I know I'm like a week late, but when I first read the original patch notes for the update I was thrilled to see they didn't kill the amby by adding bullet spread to the its first shot. But jfc I did not realize just how small a range that 1200 hammer units is. Not being able to hit headshots past 1200 units makes this thing is essentially useless now. The stock revolver is now better in almost every application. Even the medium range amby headshots only do like 60 damage. At the same range, you could pop out 35-40 damage per shot with the stock, and I imagine the dps would be comparable to hitting every headshot as quickly as possible with the ambassador. The new amby only fills the niche in which you need to deal high damage to that scout you ran into while rounding a blind corner and not much else. I can't see it being a viable weapon anymore.

The Ambassador "you don't expect to get headshot by not-a-Sniper" line was one of the dumbest patch note reasonings I have ever read with my own two eyes. A truly baffling justification for neutering a skill-based weapon.

e: Also removing all crits from the Guillotine because getting killed by it "seemed random", despite it and the Sandman having two different parabolic arcs that I'm trying very hard to line up in sequence on purpose, it's not an accident that you ate that crit pal.

Yeah, as I mentioned earlier, none of the spy changes really seemed well thought out. It all seemed like kneejerk reactions to community complaints with some extremely shallow excuses.

It's a bit disappointing, because it gives me the feeling that there's no one on the TF2 team that actually cares about spy balance anymore.

Edit: I found a clip that shows the current state of the Amby https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXqzL_iFXj8

Completely removing the skill cap on a weapon that has an extremely high skill cap is loving retarded. I can see why the team thought nerfing these items was necessary (especially for f2p players), but they cocked up all three spy items that they changed. In the case of the ambassador, I think if it dealt normal crit damage at any range (three times the normal damage at that range, capping at 102 damage), that would have been a fair nerf. At maximum range the ambassador does 17 damage, so a headshot doing 51 at that range seems perfectly reasonable to me.

Some guy in a YouTube video I was watching earlier said that it's obvious that the TF2 team doesn't actually play the game other than like private 6v6s they host for stress tests n poo poo. They've been on point with bug fixes and stuff this past week, so once all the major kinks with the updates are finally ironed out, they may return to things like the ambassador to shore them up based on community response.

Yeah, the stock revolver is still really good, and I'm honestly surprised the Diamondback wasn't the one to get a rework instead of the Amby. It's probably, as you said, because very few people actually use it.

Enforcer is still just a worse revolver, and there is literally no reason to use it in its current state.

Yes, get more stars, needed to unlock contracts. Basic contracts cost one star to unlock, some cost two or three stars, and some super bonus require many more.
E.g. the Hot Hand pyroland contract requires 9 stars, which means you actually need to have completed all the bonus objectives of all the other contracts.

IncendiaC

I don't think there's any point in doing the Halloween bonus contracts since they only need 1 star to unlock, you just need 1 or 2 extra stars to unlock multiple paths at once.
