Starting cleaning out the broken glass today in anticipation of the autoglass guy coming and a locksmith: The leather is in perfect shape, no tears, carpet is clean. The engine, on the other hand, needs some cleaning. The parts car is mildewy and the airbag popped due to the accident, but the engine looks in great shape other than a dime sized hole in the pan (from the outside, not inside, so its not a thrown rod)

Progress! Swapped the windows from the 200 today, while the passenger front window and frame were a direct fit, the passenger rear was not, and I had to swap the glass into the frame: Tomorrow we drill ignition locks.

So, I suspect the Coil Driver (Power Stage) transistor on the Coil in the 5000q Turbo wagon is shot. I see it getting a signal to fire via the Oscilliscope, and O-scoped all the other outputs (Crank Position, Crank Speed, Cam Position). The only issue it: It uses a different coil than all the others I have, so I have an idea: I'm going to use a 3B/7A coil, which uses the same firing signal, but eliminates a couple connectors as all it needs is a ignition signal and +12v/Ground Here's hoping.

Could you convert it to another coil, like a standard parts-store/MSD GM coil? I'm guessing not if it takes the cam/crank sensors as input directly into the coil (and would then apparently handle advance internally at the coil rather than the dizzy?)

Seat Safety Switch posted:Could you convert it to another coil, like a standard parts-store/MSD GM coil? No, the ECU (MAC-11) takes in all the position sensors and outputs the coil trigger. The issue we're having is the coil is basically ad-hoc'ed together and VW/Audi realized that, because in 88 they switched to the standard coil that they'd use for the next 6 years with a simple +12/Trigger/Gnd pin setup instead of 4 different connectors to achieve the same thing. All the ECU provides to the coil is a 0.4v trigger variable square wave. CommieGIR fucked around with this message at 12:44 on Oct 16, 2017 |

No luck with the 3B Coil, so I just ordered a coil.

So, I'm planning to do a Type44 V8 hood swap on the 5000: It'll give the 5000 a nice updated look from its 80s appearance:
