So, Uni-Mind update: I've noticed that Scarlet Centurion from What If? has the Avengers keyword, and his special power is now worded as "Incapacitate. Hit characters can't use powers until your next turn.", which would utterly pants Uni-Mind because it's not Outwit, haha, gently caress your Power Cosmic and gently caress your Perplex and gently caress your sideboard guys. That said, he's 140 points and has a 6 range and 10 attack, and while that's all stuff the Hydravengers can help him get around (especially with Agent H turning everyone into SHIELD too for range boosts), it's a pretty big point investment and I don't know.

Morand posted:The UXM Rare and Chase are pretty good. The UXM Rare is an economical 90 points with the ability to give anyone ESD. The chase is capable of quite a bit of damage with his Scrap Mechanic. Honestly he's probably gotten some improvements with the rule changes. With good rolls another Leadership like Mystique can keep him going, and he can TK himself now so he isn't stuck being a turret. Still a glass cannon but he has more tricks than he did a few months ago. Morand for your detectives, the second additions could be KC Batman and Magneto; high powered offense with another Outwit, Sidestep/TK and a flier for mobility, Mags for an extra attacker in a pinch. Conversely TW Bats at full, but you lose the benefit of a flier. Week three additions: GF Strange, SLOSH Riddler, ADW Moon Knight, Ace. Three more Perplexes plus whatever you want Ace to have, a versatile attacker in MK that's difficult to put down, another flier who hands out ESD like candy. It's 10 points under, so if you wanted you could drop Moon Knight for a 100 point attacker and use an old DEO Agent with second click Perplex and only be 2 points under. Week four: Chase Question and LE Nightwing. Punch everything.

I've always liked the AvX Magneto - he's just so expensive. The rule changes have probably helped that piece, with Invincible. Plus, the rule change for TK lets him move himself for free. I like the DoFP Mags, but he just has nothing on defense to help.

Yeah, that Gordon is absolutely worth it. Have a friend who does nightmarish things with that guy. If mobility is a big concern, you could consider a Great Eagle. Carry 4 people, doesn't break theme, is a decent tertiary attacker. Or the Sentinel horde tokens, 15-point giants for some cheap-ish taxis. On the detective side, don't overlook Elongated Man from the Flash set. He won't do much to help against the Uni-Mind, but 2-square Plasticity on a Stealth guy is a bitch to deal with, and he has an Outwit that sees through a lot of stuff.

I did a bad thing and made a bad team. Goblin King at full with Black Hand equipped. Dr Frankenstein Ghost 2 Werewolves Bizarrow SLOSH Bizarro with one click of life. I lost my first round to Andy's hydravengers because Hawkeye has 6 clicks of life and not 5. Hawkeye had the belt and I needed to murder him to protect my TA and the rest of my team from getting gibbed from all the running shot. I did not ko him and then was KO'd in a single round since his section chief can hand out all the outwit. I struggled along until Hawkeye hit a +2 click, was healed to full and proceeded to murder everything. It was not a good game for me. Round 2 versus World's Finest at 300 OP Flash? Atomica Pog Elongated Man He tried to hit Goblin King, Bizarrow took the hit. Flash zoomed up and hit bizarrow to a stop click. Dr Frankenstein Healed Bizarrow, goblin King did a RS pulse to WF and my now werewolves and 25 point Bizarro killed flash. He ran worlds finest back and killed my 2 wolves but Goblin King hunted him down and took him out. Round 3 versus a giant swarm of TMNT Ally's He was using wave 1 commons and not wave 1 chases so long story short, Goblin King murdered zog so he had no range and then quaked/poisoned for the win. I can't make the 800 point game but have a good idea what I'll be doing for the 1000 so we'll see if I get a better result.

I played the Hydravengers! Captain America Chase Hawkguy with full Utility Belt Hydra Agent H Jane Foster Dr. Strange, Earth's Guardian Green Arrow ID with DKR Green Arrow on sideline ----300 point line (299 points)--- Hydra Section Chief Agent Ward Shifting Density Vision 2x Hydra Recruit Superman ID with 70 point Superman from Elseworlds on sideline ----500 point line (499 points)--- I had specific plans for all the tentpoles I expected to see, but in general the plan is just to shoot the daylights out of everything, with Agent H and the Section Chief able to do their tricks on my entire team and Vision mostly there as a taxi/tie-up, but he can go heavy form to deal with pesky mystics. Round 1 was against Morand and his "I'm a dick look at all these dick moves" team. Since he didn't go into detail, I'll be happy to -- I had my team set up in a firing line for the next round, but had left one square where Hawkeye was vulnerable to a close combat attack. Rather than wait for me to light him up next turn, he gave the Goblin King hypersonic and ran right into my team, but due to not knowing Hawkeye's dial, did 5 damage and left him on his last click. Hawkeye took away his power cosmic and then got carried off to Jane by Vision, Section Chief handed out Outwits, and my team beat Goblin King to death in a single turn. After that it was all cleanup, although killing Bizarro was a pain because Morand just kept redirecting my shots to Bizarro Green Arrow and giving me a 9 attack. Round 2 was against an Asgardian theme team built around Beta Ray Bill. I had a plan for Beta Ray Bill -- Section Chief gives himself Outwit and then gets carried within 4 squares of Bill, outwits Weather Manipulation, then Hawkeye rains down hell on the entire team with cleanup from Green Arrow if I can pull it off and think it's needed. I executed my plan perfectly, only to then realize the plan was flawed; you have to have started the turn within 4, not be within 4 when the line of fire is drawn. All I'd done was bring my Section Chief up to be killed, which happened, and now I've lost my Outwit. With that failure, I just advanced slowly up towards Bill, but Enchantress had a wonderful time screwing up my positioning every time I got close. I managed to turn the game into a slog and acquitted myself well enough, but lost by a score of 129 to 37. Round 3 was against the Uni-Mind and Genis-Vell. I had a plan for Uni-Mind -- Shoot him to or past his first stop click, then bring in Green Arrow to drop him, and if he drops power cosmic for Perplex, Section Chief will hand out Outwits like candy. This plan worked flawlessly. I kept Uni-Mind occupied by shooting him to his stop click again and again as I took away Genis-Vell's power cosmic, Outwitted him, and hit him for 5 damage. Once Genis was gone I knocked Uni-Mind to his stop click one more time, brought in Green Arrow, and dropped him. The turn afterwards, Hawkeye went hunting, and dropped 4 of the 5 Eternals in a single Running Shot chain. Next turn I got the last one and ended up scoring 867 points that round, which was enough to win second place. I promised to lend out my DKR Green Arrow next week because I didn't realize I wouldn't get it back by Sunday, so that's gonna be a problem, but honestly Uni-Mind didn't really threaten me due to how utterly I could out-action him. If I need to brute force him, it'll be obnoxious, but doable, I think. There was also a Hela/Loki team that I didn't get to play, but my plan there is that Hawkeye can wipe the board of all the Lokis and Warrior Souls in a single turn, and we'll see how funny Hela thinks she is without that. I do need a new plan for Beta Ray Bill, though. My current thought is Quicksilver and either Manifold or Rick Jones, to TK him out. As long as Quicksilver can hit both his Flurry attacks, he knocks Bill onto an obnoxiously unmobile click without Weather Manipulation, and from there he can be one-shotted by Green Arrow or I can just shoot out the rest of his team around him (starting with Jane Foster, obviously).

Man, I know they've been pretty lackadaisical about previewing stuff these past few years but with this Gotham Girls set supposedly coming out in a month they've really taken the biscuit. Just a few shots from conventions and events, no dials or anything and if you don't go on HCRealms you probably wouldn't even know it exists. Some dude who supposedly has had correct info in the past is talking about who is in the set and if he's correct this time then it sounds pretty good character wise, the Female Furies, Secret Six, some long unmade Suicide Squad regulars, some needed remakes of Gotham villains and a Dr Mid-nite.

I think that dude on HCRealms is why they're not previewing stuff; if there's a leak (and he's claimed to have a full setlist) they're probably trying to plug it and in no mood to post previews that'll confirm his accuracy.

Speaking of dick moves teams, though, one venue in my town's lost pretty much its entire player base except for two players who are competitive caliber and play teams to reflect that. The one I go to has lost most of its player base and I think it's for the same reason as the other one: people are tired of facing meta-level bullshit that's going to stomp their asses if they don't have the right chases and ConExes. One guy flat-out quit the game because he was trying to play at that level and keep up with everything, but it made it so the game wasn't fun for him anymore. When we were preparing for ROC states— which was pretty much two months where half the games were 300 Modern— I was just shy of throwing my hands up and taking a break until after states. One of the players I mentioned actually won both Nebraska and South Dakota's ROC state events. Have any of the rest of you noticed this happening at your venues, or is that a localized thing? I know part of a general decline in player base was lack of new players due to the horribly complex pre-2017 rules, but I wonder how much of it is also the fact that they're making it so you have to play teams that cost well into three figures if you want to have a shot at winning as long as even one other person does that.

Lots of stuff that hasn't been made since the years of Collateral Damage or Origins in the set so it's looking like a good one to me. I suspect you're right about the chases, they're probably some subset of characters from a DC event in the past few years, like those evil Batmen from that new event are almost guaranteed chases in a year or two right? To your main point, I've not been in that situation since our local scene died during the hiatus and it's just been me and two other guys playing friendly games ever since with a few prizes on the line when our local store gets them in very rarely. I will say that reading game outlines and team comps in the past few years has definitely gotten a lot less interesting, you see a lot of the same stuff over and over. I'd have quit if I'd have had to play against the book of skulls/phoenix force/lantern batterys/possessors in every game the years they were dominant but our group pretty much just play comic accurate theme team stuff so I'm pretty lucky. I doubt the leaks are stopping them doing previews on the official site or doing their usual Scott Porter/youtuber unboxing videos, though the latter would usually be a little closer to release so they may still happen. My venue's been pretty good about keeping the meta bullshit to a low boil, though I'm really unhappy with how many teams for Escalation Month are themed around meta bullshit figures. It helps if you schedule stuff that isn't just 300 Modern, and judges who are on the ball can nip it in the bud by just making events where those figures can't be played because the rules mandate creative team building.thebardyspoon posted:Yeah he's definitely not smart to be doing all this dumb "confirming" bullshit if he's not someone designated to be doing that

I only play when judging if there is an odd amount, and obviously skip myself for prizes. Not sure if this is decent, too strong, or too weak. 80 TMT055 Enchantress 120 TMT029A Executioner 90 SFSM051 Baron Zemo 80 SFSM055 Doctor Octopus 3 TMTS002 Knobbed Mace 10 NFAOSA004 Right Arm (Hulkbuster) 15 WKD17-B001 Ape Superman Right Arm so Zemo has some dang range, and I think the Knobbed Mace on Doc Ock might be fun. We had a 2,000-pointer some time back where a guy ran Avengers TB, Exodia, and some other powerful figures. I wiped the floor with the guy in the third round. I think he took a single dial down. So I actually get to play in an event this week. It's 400 points, no resources. Must be based on a movie and not a comic book movie. I have decided to recreate the Dream Warriors from Nightmare on Elm Street since I missed the Halloween Event. Punisher of the Strange (Will Stanton) TMT 106E Hulk - 50 (Roland Kincaid) Nightwing - 100 (Kristen Parker) Deadpool and X-Force Shatterstar - 60 (Taryn White) Prize Banshee - 50 (Joey Crusel) Dr Killebrew (Dr. Gordon) - Not technically a dream warrior but I'm 40 points down without him. Curious about your thoughts or other ideas for a team. My wife suggested 50 Shades of Grey which while hilarious, no. Andy is doing "The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra" of which I have no idea what the movie even is except that it has aliens and a telepathic skeleton who kills for kicks.

For some reason, I thought it would be funny to make a movie team based on Kramer vs. Kramer. Gladiator once took on the holographic alias of Cal Kramer. There was a Checkmate Agent named Philip Kramer. Then maybe just use a bunch of divorced characters. Hawkeye and Mockingbird, Scarlet Witch and Vision... Spider-Man, Mary Jane and Mephisto... vvvv Maybe Supreme Intelligence as that giant head that pukes out weapons. If I'm thinking of the right movie. So it turns out I want virtually every SR and most rares from Harley, combined with decent to amazing Primes whom I'd like but don't necessarily need, means that for the first time in a year and a half I bought a brick. It turned out very well, with Bombshell Zatanna, King Shark, Giganta, Shazam, and Barda as my SRs, Chase and prime. I was super stoked to not only get a prime and Chase (Barda came in the same pack as King Shark, which seems like a common combo if Facebook posts are to be believed) but that it was one of the two primes I really wanted. Shazam is nifty but I'm not sure what to do with him; I don't play Justice League much and a 200 pt Mystics/Pulse Wave figure is about as far from my play style as you can get. Hopefully I can trade him for a Bat-God, probably the only Chase I'd actually bother to track down unless Grail went super cheap. The paint in this set seems phenomenally good relative to prior releases too. King Shark in particular has a Man-Bat level gorgeous sculpt, but his paint is perfectly applied. It also looks like there's actually a wash of some kind on certain figures like Shark and Shazam, they have definition I'm unused to outside of custom work.

I dunno about the paint. There's some serious slop here. I pulled Black/Red Lantern Harley, and not only was she broken in two places (her arm fell off, and she was broken off of the sculpt), but her face paint job might as well be a Russian nesting doll. I'm willing to trade this as is if anyone wants to put the time into fixing her. My brick (and 4 boosters extra for a sealed) also included King Shark (yay!), Bombshell Supergirl, Harley & Ivy (also up for trade), Nightshade (very cool), Grail (who I didn't even realize I pulled, because my glance at the sculpt made me think she was Lashina and I have no idea who Grail is), and my girlfriend pulled God Lex in the sealed and cleaned house. Got the Sinestro Harley prime. Some of the bombshells look iffy, too, and the whole bombshell concept really calls for some kickass sculpts/paints, too. Still, gotta get 'em all. Even though I don't even read the book. Sad I did not pull Jeannette. At least I got a Kite-Man!

Ran a WKO with Harley Today. Highlights are a team of Bat God and Title Character Harley going 1-2. In one round his refusal to just run all over with the free phasing doomed him. In another he apparently took 4 from a hootie owl. Overall winning team of the Swiss was a team of granny goodness and cheap things. The event winner was a team of Prometheus, yellow scarecrow, big tony and something else maybe? He chipped down a giant swarm with poison and good luck. Overall sculpts look good, paint jobs are hit or miss (Batgod was gorgeous) lots of broken figures in boosters though. Like a worrisome amount.

I played in a WKO Harley sealed event over the weekend. I wound up going 5-1 (four rounds to cut to top 4, then two rounds of single elim) with a team that I and everyone around me thought would have no chance, since a Shazam was on the table. I wound up running with: Paul Kirk, Manhunter Catman Scandal Savage Red Tornado HIVE Commander Rare Catwoman I dominated almost every match, since half my team had Stealth, and Red Tornado could pretty much reposition my whole team. I had to play my rear end off the whole time, though, and there were no easy moves. Everything was relying on damage avoidance and taking risky moves to mitigate future risk. I even managed to dogpile the Shazam and win my match against him in the opening, but lost in the final for the Kitty LE against the same Shazam team. Still close, but Catwoman crit missed on an attack that likely would have KO'd Shazam. This set is way more fun in sealed than most I've played in, even if there are a ton of scary power pieces.
