That sucks for all those peeps, it was not a fun or replayable game though. I still had much more fun with the free dogfighting in War Thunder.

Edit: Also that seems like a real lot of people for a game that small, especially since they already had a lot of the assets ready to go. I worked on a game with more content and technical complexity than that and we only had 50 counting QA. Maybe they hired everyone on for Oculus money and knew it wasn't sustainable.

I'd love for it to get motion controls, though I just don't know how he'd get that in with modifying the game engine. Currently it is a better experience than the original VR implementation that I played in my DK2 as far as the UI, which is more than enough for me and I'll likely play through that again in VR. Motion controls or not.

This intuition that lots of people seem to share is pretty interesting. So the idea is that unscrupulous people will create convincing fake sex videos of others, without their permission, and then put them up publicly online? In the case that that became possible, everyone would know it was possible the same way everyone knows it's possible to photoshop someone into a fake sex photo right now. Being photoshop-ed into sex photos doesn't seem to be ruining people's lives today, so the most likely outcome is that this will also have a negligible effect on our lives just like photoshop did.

If the idea is that people are going to create VR sex scenes with proxies of other people for their own private consumption, then, sorry to say but people have been doing that since forever with their imaginations and they will probably continue to do so even with this technology when they don't have the exact program to get the scenario they want to fantasize about.

Get a rift/vive if you want VR as well. So when/if she hates it you have something that wont rot once you finish the 4 games for PS4.

The dilemma continues then! I was originally just going to get one we could use between our computers. The problem is that I didn't set her up with a video card at the time I built these last year, so I would have to shell out for that too. It looks like I'm blowing something like $600 between a basic PS4 console and the headset minimally. If I go with the Rift, I'm looking at $400 plus minimally $200 for the video card. So it looks like a big splashy wash from here.

Seriously comparing a tier 1 VR system like a Vive or a Rift is not even fair to a tier 3 at best PSVR. Even the janky MSVR stuff is an easy decision over PSVR.
But right now you can’t really touch the Rift with the price it has.

Honestly, considering you're looking at a similar price, you'll have a better experience with high quality PC stuff, not to mention when a big requirement of yours was not feeling sick, the PSVR has issues with tracking being wobbly sometimes in addition to the tiny cone of movement. If you go the rift route, you'll have more games, more interesting games overall, better looking experiences, better controllers, and if you find you're really loving it, you can pick up a 3rd sensor and set up a room scale setup (well, you can do roomscale with 2 cameras as well, but considering the small cost of a 3rd i think its worth it). With the PSVR you're only really going to have sitting experience, or standing in place barely able to move with the absolute worst VR controllers on the market.

The PSVR is good for what it is, if you already have a PS4 and no pc that can run VR, but if you're having to get it from scratch I can't recommend it over PC setups.

iceaim
May 20, 2001

I pretty much agree with everyone else here. Get a tier 1 VR system like the Vive or the Rift. Plus the Rift is pretty cheap, just as good as the Vive (the motion controllers are arguably better on the Rift), and you have a far bigger library than PSVR. Many PSVR games have been ported to PCVR too. There's also a ton of free VR content on the PCVR side including Vive Nights at Freddies which will work fine on the Rift.

If your wife is looking for jump scares, there's really no shortage of that on the PCVR side.

Wow, some lovely elitist PC masterrace assholes in this thread.

Guess what, there's a lot of overlap between the PSVR library and the PC libraries.

And, I go leaping all over my living room playing Superhot VR with excellent motion tracking.

And you know what else? The PSVR headset is widely commented as being the most comfortable of the Gen 1 headsets, and also among the best for Screen Door Effect.

Yeah it isn't Lighthouse roomscale and yeah it doesn't sense when I close my fist or whatever, it's still immersive and enjoyable and I didn't have to go into debt to get that enjoyable experience.

Maybe so, but I'm looking at blowing $600 either way before the smoke clears because I don't have a PS4 already. I suppose I should have also mentioned that I'd probably dabbling in 3d game stuff with it on the PC. IIRC there's some driver that may get the PSVR to run on the PC, but it was kind of scaring me--and technically making it more expensive than getting a PC-based one in the first place.
