Yeah, the reason why these people say that they were banned for playing Torb is that they're basically putting down their turret, spraypainting D.Va on the ground, and humping it for 15 minutes while doing nothing else.

Blizzard has metrics that show if you're even attempting to assist in the fight, if you're attempting but failing badly they won't ban you. But if you're just plopping down a turret and then alt+tabbing to watch anime (which is a thing someone did, and streamed it) they'll ban you.

It apparently takes literally thousands of reports in Overwatch to get banned. An impressive feat to be honest (and I guess moderately embarrassing for Blizzard that they let accounts go on that long).

This exact thing has happened hundreds of times in the dota/lol threads over the years and every time it's the person being human garbage. And you have to be a really loving lovely person for the player report systems to start taking action on you in overwatch and dota.

If anything, Blizzard encourages people to disrupt the meta. If Torb is "dogshit" according to the playerbase, someone who plays as him and wrecks face is fine by them. Blizzard just cares if you're a dick or disruptive. "Play nice, play fair" is their mantra, after all.

Oh yeah, I remember that now. There were like 3 goons who got some sort of temporary punishment in Overwatch and they came to the conclusion it was because they played a lot of Torbjorn (guy who builds a turret and tosses armor to teammates, usually not the best character in a game with so much mobility). I don't remember the name of the third guy, but the other two were Jastiger and Duck & Cover so it was safe to assume they were all punished because they were behaving like gaping assholes.

What the hell? I play Tor a lot, and have never gotten any kind of ban... And if you play Tor, you drop the turret, then run around shooting people, grabbing scrap, and tossing armor with the occasional turret visit for repair.

yes, that's because you actually play, rather than hurling abuse at others and howling furiously into the void before complaining about your unjust muting on internet forums

Jastiger and d&c are both prime examples of horrible people. Which is why they got punished, not because of what they played.

I remember d&c doing the exact same thing in Dota, complaining about getting punished for playing axe mid.

It took about 5 seconds to look up his games and view the chat logs to see the real reason.

I mean, sure, D&C might have been banned from ever posting again in multiple megathreads for popular competitive games, and eaten tons of month-long probations in others, but I'm sure he's just the paragon of calmness and rationality when he's actually playing.

absolutely not, blizzard does not give a poo poo what character you pick

everyone saying they were punished for picking the wrong character is just deflecting on being a lovely rear end in a top hat

blizzard would prefer there not to be a meta at all, because then that means everything is perfectly balanced. meta only exists for people who play competitive and care way too much

I can understand thinking that someone would report you for playing a characters, but to think that a company would enforce those reports without reviewing them in some way is ridiculous. If they didn't want you playing the character, they would've removed them.

The actual thing that finally got him banned was starting a derail on a story about a guy setting up cameras in a change room to secretly record people, including underage girls. Jastiger said this was evidence of how prudish american culture is and how it's just bodies and how so long as the victims never knew they were being filmed and the guy filming just wanked in privacy and didn't profit off the pictures no has been harmed. This went on for a few pages with him valiantly defending invading people privacy to make child porn.

Yeah, I am just that one weird goon that actually plays a game to have fun and have a good time, not turn it into a political forum or some such. Only ever reported two people. One for spamming Tracer's "deja vu" voice line almost an entire match, especially after multiple people asked them to quit and one for leaving their mike open (and apparently their speakers REALLY loud) as the offset sounds were loving up my play. Both after multiple polite requests to stop with progressive warnings I would report them.

Been doing this wacky social experiment in OW. Actually giving good feedback to other players when warranted and not complaining when it isn't.

He also hand-wavingly dismissed recording changing women and girls in secret as a "thought crime", because they never knew he did it. I never really liked Jastiger, but I never realized just how big of a shithead he was.
