It's because Dark Angels are bad :ssh:

They have nothing differentiating their normal units, they lack a lot of basic options, and Ravenwing are generally over-priced. Terminators are great though and pure Deathwing can be a lot of fun. It's a basically a series of giving no shits as you try to pound everything to death in melee.

We have a 1500pt local tourney coming up. I don't plan on being hyper-competitive but want to run a fun fluffy list that can at least hang out a few games. I originally wanted to go full wraithhost but swapped out a wraithlord for a fire prism to get some extra firepower (losing a wraithguard unit in the process).

Vanguard Detachment (+1 CP)
HQ (1-2)
Autarch 77
Spiritseer 45 Enhance/Drain
Elites (3-6)
Bonesinger 70
5 x Wraithguard 200 Wraithcannons
5 x Wraithblades 225 Ghostaxe & Forceshield
Spearhead Detachment (+1 CP)
HQ (1-2)
Spiritseer 45 Quicken/Restrain
Heavy Support (3-6)
1 x Wraithlord 151 Ghostglaive, 2 x Flamers, 2 x Shuriken Cannons
1 x Wraithlord 151 Ghostglaive, 2 x Flamers, 2 x Shuriken Cannons
1 x Fire Prism 165 Shuriken Cannon
Flyer (0 -2)
Hemlock Wraithfighter 210 Jinx
Dedicated Transport
Wave Serpent 154 Twin Shuriken Cannon, Shuriken Cannon, Star Engines, Vectored Engines
1493

Warlord: Autarch
Relic: Psytronome of Iyanden (Spiritseer)
Craftworld: Iyanden
CP: 5

The idea being that the Fire Prism hangs out with the Autarch shooting poo poo. Wave Serpent with either wraithblades or wraithguard and bonesinger/spiritseer race up the field. The other wrait elite unit is kept in the webway. Meanwhile the other spiritseer escorts the 2 wraithlords up the field while providing a reroll bubble. And then the hemlock runs around murdering poo poo.

I feel like this presents sufficient scary, and durable, targets to not present an obvious choice for turn 1 focus fire. Thoughts?

Guys, how do I Exocrine?

I've got two of them. Their output can be amazing - that's why they often get focused down asap.

My big problem with them is that their output is drastically hampered by moving (Half shots and -2 to hit rolls). So right now, I often put them on the table threatening firing lanes turn 1. After facing a three Predator Abaddon killshot list that simply shot both of them turn 1, I'm starting to consider terrain - lacking an invul save, they are more fragile than they look and very susceptible to lasacannons.

So this is largely table and enemy list dependent, but let's imagine I can only deploy them out of LOS so that they won't threaten anything without moving at least once, or in plain sight. Which would you choose?

I’d probably swap the star engines on the wave serpent for upgrading the turret gun to a twin starcannons if you can? I’d also use your other six spare points to stick a crystal targeting matrix on the prism because why not.

It’s very different to the kinds of armies I like to run, so I’m not certain how to evaluate it, but I think it’s fine on paper. My main worry would be that you’re a bit short on long range anti tank, and vulnerable to massed heavy infantry if your fire prism gets blown up.

If they ever redesign the Leman Russ, I hope they give it some kind of mechanically-plausible suspension. It's not like there aren't loads of inter-war tanks with appropriately bizarre designs to draw upon.

Well, the reason I went with star engines and vectored engines was so i could advance up the field very quickly and get the -1 to be hit. Since I'm planning to advance, I wouldn't be able to shoot the star cannons, which is why I kept the shuriken cannons.

Definitely want the crystal targeting matrix.

I could possibly tweak things to make one of the wraithlords bright lance dudes but I guess i just wanted to charge them in and beat tanks to death with their hands.

My hope is that I'm durable enough to get close enough to the big tanks and shoot them, particularly with the wave serpent and a deepstrike wraith unit. Dropping a unit of wraithguard 9" from a tank should be sufficient to do some serious damage or possibly kill it outright if i have a reroll bubble in range.

I do wish I had more S6 shots with AP, shuriken cannons are ok but AP0 blows and star cannons only do 2 shots.

Ill have to playtest this stuff casually because its also way different from my usual, I typically go all aspect warriors with tons of bodies.

Yeah Victoria Miniatures makes a really nice 4x4 kit as well, but I wanted 6x6. Blood and Skulls makes this one, it's good and more affordable than others, but It uses the stock Taurox suspension so it doesn't line up with the fenders the way I would like. It's the type of thing only I will notice though.

I had thought about getting a kit and cutting the fenders where they join the hull, then re-angling them into a more pronounced wheel well. Work would be covered up by putty, card strips with rivets, or just extra kit on top of the fender. Think that might work on the kit?
