No joke: Yes, they're too big. There's a commercially available hybrid motor that's 38mm OD; ideally we'd like to make one in the next common size down, which is 29mm. That tank is 2 inches wide, which is 51mm. My ideal tank is one with that same capacity, but half as wide and twice as long. Our drag margins are super tight, going from 29mm up to 38 decreases our best-case apogee by 1000 feet.

If we can convince our senior design advisers that we can safely fabricate our own pressure vessels it would be no problem, but they have a strong preference for off-the-shelf components already rated to do the job, so I'm strongly looking at backup options.

What about 12g CO2 cart.'s? maybe in tandem if necessary? OD is 18.2mm. Maybe you could turn the neck and thread it for a small ID fitting for filling? Kinda spitballing here.

The benefit is not having to setup outputs, hysteresis points, display colours etc via the 2 tiny buttons on the top.

I have heard that private sales are better bang for your buck. ive tried contacting a few people who never respond, and id be nervous with a private sale. i think if i knew more about cars, id be more comfortable with it, and no unfortunately everyone i know doesnt know jack about cars. not even how to change oil.

ill try to go to the dealer over the weekend and test drive them. honestly i mainly need a car for a->b stuff, and i figured the car i buy now will last a few years and next time around ill be more comfortable with cars and have better credit so i can finance if i want (but that does not seem super appealing if cash is an option)

The first generation Focus was not very good, even when new. Any car in your price range is going to need some work. It might be right away it might be a few months from now.

You don't need to know about cars to buy a car from a private sale. Go look at what you can afford. Find something that you can live with and take it to a mechanic for a PPI (pre-purchase inspection). If the seller doesn't let you, walk away. The mechanic can give you a list of things wrong or things that will need to be serviced soon and hopefully what they charge to fix them.

You might have better luck asking in this thread:

It's an excellent a->b car for people with no money. or as a winter beater. The only trash first gen focii were the split port motor cars which should be avoided at all costs. Accents are built so cheaply as to be offensive. Corollas have Toyota tax. Many of the other high MPG econoboxes have no torque + short gearing which = annoying as hell to highway commute. I went to the local lovely JY and there were 10 other 1G focii to pull parts from. You can buy anything for a focus for super cheap.

Buy a 2.0L Zetec or a 2.3L Duratec Focus from a private party. I bought one for 1.3K put thousands of miles on it and then gave it to someone else and they're still driving it with 200,000+ miles on it.

2.3L Duratec looks like this:

2.0L Zetec looks like this

The focus is also surprisingly fun to drive in stock form due to the independent rear suspension and light weight combined with OK power. If you can find a ZX4 ST (05-06) there's a little bump in power.

Ford bought my '00 ZX3 back from me after almost 2 months in the shop the first year. It literally started falling apart the minute it rolled off the lot. It was a great car except when stuff was falling off. Which wasn't often.

On the flipside, my brother bought an '06 new and has almost 200k miles on it. The only problem he's had are motor mounts, specifically the one under the washer fluid container and the driver's seat side bolster has broken off twice.

BITTER POOR PERSON
I bought my '02 used in '04, still DD it today. Factory original engine and manual transmission - engine doesn't burn oil, all the gears engage smoothly, still gets high-20s MPG with shorter final drive gears and me driving it like I stole it.

Only major work it's needed has been two clutch replacements and a fuel pump (latter was covered by a TSB) and the usual collection of maintenance on a high mileage car.

e: mine was manufactured in Hermosillo.

WARM FUZZIES

When I was a kid Dad won the lottery. Not a ton of money but enough that Mom & Dad got totally out of debt (except for the mortgage) and had enough scratch to pay for a new car after a trade in. So Dad being the uber nerd that he was went for a brand new Japanese car despite being endlessly mocked by his coworkers. And while watching Stranger Things a near perfect copy of his car shows up and I just can't stop smiling as it's the car I learned to drive in. And what with everything Dad just went through it just makes me happy that he's around around and I can show him neat stuff like this.

1984 Toyota Camry Liftback. Dad's was all red instead of 2-tone but this is pretty much his car.

Been on holidays the past two weeks (going to finish tomorrow :smith: but still got a couple of days before going back to work). Been driving on some of the best roads in my state, including The Great Ocean Road and other roads around it which looks like the cartographer was having a seizure while drawing the roads. Strangely enough my diesel Focus has been a great car for these twisty roads, as the low down torque just pulls the car out of the corners nicely. Been great fun, and will share some photos once I am home and on reliable Internet.

Whole Foods had a massive nationwide job fair today.

You guys know I used to work there. Well, a lot of you do. It's been 7 years since I left..

Got hired there again today, in the position I originally started in. Part time, and I may have to give up my Amazon delivery contract (which isn't giving me poo poo for hours anymore anyway), but I enjoyed working there before, and they're flexible on scheduling (so I can keep doing GrubHub and Uber Eats, but I'll be averaging 29 hours a week at whole paycheck). I'm happy to have a W2 job again; it's a bit less money than what I'm used to, but that employee discount will be drat nice... and it'll be nice not being behind the loving wheel all day (and not spending $100/week on gas).

I installed a server on a cargo ship back on Tuesday, and I've been sitting here in Donghae, Korea waiting for a contractor from the sensor company to come, hook up some sensors, and turn on their PLC. My plan was, he'd show up, turn on his thing, we'd verify that the two devices could talk, and I'd be on my way to Seoul this morning. I think he knew I was waiting, so he chose to tackle the main engine power meter first and let me twist in the wind a few days. Dude got his device powered on at something like 4:45 PM today -- just late enough that I wouldn't be able to make the last train out. I still have enough flex built into my plan that I can make it to the airport in time tomorrow, but for the love of god, dude. I've been grinding my teeth for three days waiting for some sign of life from their device.

This seems perfectly sensible! My neighbor picked up a brand new one early in the summer for a pittance and he loves the thing. It makes fun whizpop sounds when he drives by my house even at low speeds. They are really good looking little cars that seem to be really engaging when driven. His family affectionately refers to the car as "Zippy". I think that when my beater Mazda6 finally dies I will get a used Fiesta ST for winter driving.
