A friend reckons that qld Labor don't want adanis mine but are shackled with some dumb contract made by the Newman gov that would force them to pay massive penalties if they cancelled it. The game plan ever since has been publicly spruiking but privately stalling so that adani will bleed too many costs n challenges and pull out of the deal themselves.

That's what strategic leaks to the Herald are for. It's far more likely that they don't want to hand the lnp an easy attack campaign on 'jobs and growth' because they (correctly) assume Queenslanders care more about 500 lovely mining jobs than the reef.

A mine that will never turn a profit and end up having to be bailed up and cleaned up by a Labor federal government no doubt. Turnbull, Abbott, Brandis, Hunt and Frydenberg should do time over this. Still curious to know what the gently caress Qld Labor are actually doing here, dumb theories and hot takes aside. Edit: Like, they're literally betting on coal making a comeback, and as a result their own energy policy is hosed because they've bet the farm on coal making a comeback. I think Adani is the result of QLD Labor betting that Turnbull would get a few more terms and the only way to get Federal funding for projects is to support coal or whatever and since the State government is basically hanging on by the skin of its teeth. It needs to adopt a Queensland First slogan for regional areas and wait it out.

Someone needs to explain to the politicians of Queensland that the GBR is basically a mine for money. You send in miners (tourists) and they in turn dig out the minerals (money) locked within. All the money stays in the country, you can tax it, it creates jobs for areas without many other industries. It's a money mine holding infinity dollars as long as you keep it healthy, which is easy to do when you don't open bullshit mines that cause your infinite money mine to die.
