Baller. With that class combo you can also do a "making poo poo explode like holy poo poo bro" build which focuses on firing off lots of long-ish cooldown skills like a loving crazy bomber rather than holding auto-attack. This is an :effort: template you could flesh out that emphasizes fire damage with quite a bit of lightning, to boot: http://www.grimtools.com/calc/xZyD7JmV

Note that if you get Mortar Trap to one point over the normal max you can drop TWO of them and they basically gently caress poo poo up like drat. Otherwise, you're probably not going to want to focus on getting skills way overleveled. This might not be "end game" viable, but it's certainly "fun as hell" viable.

this is seeming like a very strong contender for the build of rear end Avenger, my second character

(the first guy is named Dickslap)

I'm going through Veteran as a DoT Cabalist. It lacks a bit of punch once you've spent a few levels with Bloody Pox max'd out, but it turns out that if you transmute to Fevered Rage and embrace the spirit of Yakkity Sax, stuff just falls over dead. Make sure you put a few points in Ill Omen, mind you: cast Ill Omen on the first mob in a pack and then Bloody Pox as he(/she?) starts running away for maximum carnage.
Just make sure you've got some space in case you find there's a Hero mob in that pack.

My dude :hfive: I've since switched my Cabalist to Pet Lord, but for a good long time I was doing the Bloody Pox/Ill Omen combo. Hordes of monsters running away and exploding at the same time.

I'm currently building towards this: http://www.grimtools.com/calc/b28qYreV It's been pretty amazing. I might swap the gloves for (mythical) Bonescavenger's Deathgrips because MOAR PETZ and also a shitload of extra pet damage/attack speed. For leveling it, I just race to 50/32 mastery and pick up a point in the abilities with points in them on the way. Then get a few more points into blood of dreeg, followed by maxing out everything that is maxed out. From there you can pretty much do whatever, your army of skelebros will lay waste to everything in your path.

All you need is resists and a solution for burst damage for your build to function well, and there's plenty of those things everywhere.

Link your build.

I don't think it's that bad, though the aether resistance check can be a bit unforgiving coming from pre-AoM where it was totally possible to slightly ignore it in story mode.

Max out your aether resist and overcap it by about 20%. Remember that R is the hotkey for using a potion and be really liberal with using them. The expansion content isn't that much more difficult, you just have to move around a little more and actually use potions every now and again.

Decided to start a second character but a Demolitonist this time, opposite from my pet build. Holy poo poo it's so much fun. Unknown horror from beyond the void? Meet my friend Mr Molotov. Oh you're immune to flame? Well here's some explosive shrapnel. :black101:

Yeah out of everything I've tried Demo feels like the most fun and engaging class so far. Running around hosing everything down with bullets while setting off bombs and explosions everywhere feels like I'm playing the ARPG equivalent of Schwarzenegger's character from Commando.

How much physique should I be aiming for in that case? I really want to use guns but splitting between all three stats, rather than a few in spirit with the rest in physique, feels like it'll be a bit clumsy long term. Using a sword for bomb throwing doesn't fit my :siren: class fantasy :siren:

Running a demo/arcanist, I think I've dumped a grand total of 10 points in cunning/spirit, and I've never had any troubles with being able to equip any gear apart from the very first levels. Pouring 2 points into the masteries every level ensured that my stats were always suitable, so my stat points could go into physique/HP.

So, I’ve recently discovered the joy of the second hotkey bar. You can swap to that by hitting “y” or clicking on a tiiiiiny button. I put all of my passive skills on there now.

I have also finally grokked that unlike many other ARPGs, Grim Dawn much more heavily favors defense. If you have a choice between more armor/resists/hp and more damage, if things are dying at an “ok” pace, take the defense. I’d call that a general rule, and one that I’m sure you can break in many cases with high end gearing or whatever.

I don't actually know how to use skills outside the hotbar (or if there is a way) so it's good to have that second one for passives.

You can go into options and assign skills to your middle mouse button or any other side buttons on your mouse. What I did was change 3 and 4 to MM and M4 and then 5 to 3, 6 to 4, etc.

Because I use those for passives. 1 and 2 are heal and energy, 3 and 4 are for those 8 second secondary support skills you sometimes get on constellations or items and/or emergency button skills, MM is for Pneumatic Burst or Nova skills, M4 is for bomb-like skills or doom bolt or whatever. 5-8 are for passives. I've been playing like this for 1000 hours now. Don't judge me, ok!

I've been playing a minor variation of the Forcewave build and it's taken me halfway through Elite without any major issues so far.

On an unrelated note, I was more than a little shocked to learn that the tiny icon above the level display at the bottom of the screen, when moused over, displays an in-game clock. Click on it and the clock remains permanently visible. :aaa:

Using Grim Goonette (seriously, thank you for this) I made a Ritualist (Necro/Shaman) drain build that hasn't broken a sweat against anything in Ultimate yet: http://www.grimtools.com/calc/dVbK5qgZ

I'll probably get rid of Ill Omen (it doesn't work on things that matter, and everything else dies to the Ravenous Earth/Wendigo/Storm Totems + Drain Essence channeling) and Reap Spirit (Aether Tendril from Aethersteel Bolts is a devastating LMB, no need to double up). I'll probably take those points and redistribute them into Aether-converted Siphon Souls for one more DoT damage source, or possibly even Grasping Vines (for larger area and stronger snare).
