Just one more thing!
This show is great and I am invested in the characters. I was wary to watch it at first because I was worried it would be another story about a high schooler getting sucked into an MMO world but the MMO is just a game and setting, and the protagonist is in her 30s and is a fantastic character. Can't wait for more.

I do like the OP for this show. Really sets the mood.

Staring up at nothing while spinning in a chair is extremely relatable. Also life and MMO habits getting called out.

Also I assume Koiwai and Sakurai are fujo catnip.

Edit: I'm kind of going to miss her long hair.

Moriko reminds me a lot of myself. I've never been a NEET but I've gone through spells where I played games obsessively and it was bad for me, wasted my money, I lost track of time, had a hard time leaving the house, didn't like being around people in public, etc.. poo poo is too real, man.

I feel like she's cuter when she's unkempt but I guess we're entering the recovery phase of the addiction.

edit: Are there even any other shows about people playing MMOs that aren't ads (like PSO2) or isekai (like Sword Art Online)? I can relate to this poo poo way too well and I kind of want more

Yeah, her hairdresser and Lily/Sakurai were right about her hair.

It's weird but this is my favorite show of the season followed by Land of the Lustrous and Ancient Magus' Bride in second and third places, I wasn't expecting that.

I guess I don't really see Koiwai, from what we've seen, as in any way sensitive, or really giving enough of a drat about anyone other than himself. I think people overestimate the degree to which he and Sakurai are friends. He and Sakurai have certainly known each other for less than the time Moriko has been a NEET, and outside of work probably haven't spent nearly as much time together given how Sakurai plays MMOs.

It is probably too dark for this show but it might be an interesting angle to take that IRL, as an adult, you don't always get to pick who your friends are. You have to try and get along with your work colleague, even if he's a jerk, and it's up to you to figure out what you can endure.

He's gay for Sakurai and an affectionate teaser

I wasn't getting any pointy love triangle vibes, maybe some potential triangles with rounded corners, but nothing major.

Yeah I don't sense any love triangle happening UNLESS Koiwai starts playing the MMO to get at Moriko (but I think him playing wingman is genuine despite his trolling.)

It was extremely brutal. I remember when assassins came out, and man did I love that class. Joining a private server made the game much more fun, but by then the 2nd classes had already come out.

Also, if anyone is getting into FF14 for the first time, don't buy the expansions. They are almost exclusively high end content you can't access until you've finished the plot of the base game.

Also, if you get one expansion, I would suggest getting the other as well, because all the prestige classes unlock at Level 50, so you can go into any one of them after finishing all the base-game content.

One thing, though, is that XIV is a bit of a slow starter - it’s not until you start doing dungeons (and, later, trials) that the game really starts to come into its own. I think it was downing my first primal that really, properly hooked me.

There’s probably a double meaning in susume maybe, even if the dictionary definition is recommendation , since they use katakana for it.

if you buy the new expansion now, it includes the first one for free. also they changed the free trial to level 35 so you get to see some of the real content (and a big plot cliffhanger) instead of having it cut out 2/3 of the way through what's basically a very long tutorial for Japanese console players with no MMO experience.

I quit after the old level 20 trial, went back and powered through the rest of the boring part after spending a week off work watching all of Log Horizon S1, and stayed subscribed for the 3 years since then because the rest of it is really good.

There's 勧める
and 進む/進める
勧め is the only one that's in the dictionary as a proper word, but if you turn the other one into a noun, it would become "susume" as well.

Yeah, that's what I found too, so my assumption is susume in katakana has some other meaning, slang, meme, or pun-related maybe that'll turn the meaning into Recovery that's not listed in the dictionary, since both Recovery and Recommendation show up in the OP. Or it's a stretch of the definition of advancement into Recovery
