Also Viscera is surprisingly fun and relaxing when you're playing with friends. Until one of them spills a blood bucket.

There's some kind of free game giveaway here: https://account.asmodee.net/en/redeem/gencon2017 Requires a simple account sign up. You can get either Mysterium or Ticket To Ride for free. I was able to get both by making two accounts with throwaway email addresses. Took like two minutes. Supposedly limited keys.

For a day and 22 hours from this post: a steam code for The Walking Dead Season 1 (the game, not the TV series) is free. https://www.humblebundle.com/store/the-walking-dead-season-1 There are a few more Walking Dead games available, I think this freebie is the first third or quarter of the storyline. Don't forget to redeem it on Steam after grabbing, or it will expire. quote:You recently purchased The Walking Dead: Season 1. Stick Insect fucked around with this message at 19:42 on Sep 7, 2017 |

Season 1 is a full story in and of itself, though; if you're thirsty for more there are more Telltale games in the same vein, though Season 1 is generally considered to be the strongest of them by far.

It recently popped up in the Grognard thread that Matrix has a couple of older Gary Grigsby games available for free: War in Russia which eventually led to War in the East, but is regarded by some as more playable, notwithstanding its outdated interface. Pacific War is of a similar vintage and has a similar legacy, but doesn't seem to have as many proponents arguing for playing it since War in the Pacific is better liked these days. To get them, click on 'Downloads' - you'll need a Matrix account and may have to go through a 'purchase' and checkout process the first time you do this.

Oh hell yeah Back to Bed is great and you should snag it. The game starts out with the sentence "Bob has narcolepsy" spoken by what sounds like a dangerously intoxicated man and that's pretty much the premise.

RareAcumen posted:Yeah, going from assassinating Kerrigan to suddenly deciding not to was a real bad move. like his entire operation against mengsk. you could jive with it if he could talk about how mengsk is an rear end in a top hat, is bad for the common good, and talk about what he sees coming after he takes mengsk down - you know, basic, basic insurgent poo poo that people have done again and again since forever instead raynor says mengsk is an rear end in a top hat, stops there, never elaborates, and when his subordinates are like "hey and after we kill him it's gonna be great afterward right, jim? .....right?" raynor basically goes "lol idk that's your problem im just leading you all on because my hate boner will never go down" okay great thanks i'm glad you made my player surrogate a completely moronic psychopath

Starcraft 1's writing wasn't exactly Tolstoy but it was pretty solid for a video game, and the character motivations were pretty decent. Which leads me to being baffled at just how awful and unlikeable they made all the characters in Starcraft 2, they're like caricatures or children's cartoons, with nonsensical motives and uncalled-for theatrics at every turn.

Having spoken to someone who works at Blizzard I can confirm their writing staff just has a big box of action figures and they bash them together making "pew pew" noises with their mouths.

Wings of Liberty, the part that's free? Ehhhhhhh. Significantly worse in story, but gameplay? There are a few too many gimmick maps, but Starcraft's gameplay is still solid as hell. Plus they did do some neat things with unique units that are not balanced for multiplayer, so it's probably worth a shot. Just turn your brain off, super off, anywhere near story or cutscenes.
