I think that bow and arrow guy said that he prefers people to shake his stump like that, he may just not have noticed and the video cuts off too early.

Drive thru places in America are a consequence of the land being huge and most people driving everywhere, as well as a lack of decent public transport in most cities.

CVS/Walgreens will do minor shopping for you under certain circumstances: you're a frequent customer, you're disabled in some way that makes it hard to walk through a store, the store isn't super busy, and whatever item you want will fit through the little door that the Rx gets put into.

Sometimes if the pharmacy was busy but the store wasn't, they would call a front employee to grab an item and take it back there, or meet the customer out front with it.

I think CVS has curbside pickup now for non-perscription stuff.

Once shot a man in Reno.

The gif cuts a bit early but you can LITTERALLY see the archer lift his foot up and the guy giving him the medal stooping to shake his foot. I think it's admirable that they both kinda went with it. to me, it shows class.

HAIL TO THE VICTORS!
Man who sent prostitutes to neighbors' door while he watched from his house is sentenced to 4 years in prison

quote:

The married couple felt afraid and captive in their own home for nearly four years.

About 30 times each year, women would show up on their front porch late at night or early in the morning. They would strip and then, seeking payment, would try to open the front door or ring the doorbell, waking the Elkhorn couple’s two young children.

It caused marital stress and affected their professional lives.

The visits and the women’s actions were orchestrated by a neighbor across the street: Douglas Goldsberry, who masturbated while watching from his kitchen.

“It’s a really twisted and sick plot,” said Deputy Douglas County Attorney Chad Brown, adding that Goldsberry called it “a screening process.”

“He derived pleasure out of how far he could control these women to see how far he could get them to go.”

Goldsberry, 45, was sentenced to the same amount of time he terrorized the family — four years, the maximum penalty on his pandering charge.

Under state guidelines that cut sentences in half, Goldsberry will serve less than two years, with credit for 177 days already served in jail.

But he also faces other charges.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office searched his electronic devices and found evidence of child pornography on his hard drives. Goldsberry has been indicted in federal court on one count of possession of child pornography and faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted of that charge.

This story doesn't make any sense.

These prostitutes, are they in on the plan? Or does he have to give instructions to each one every time he does it? "yeah go to this address, and before you even enter the house, just strip off in public."

I mean after you get the 4th or 5th prostitute arrested for public indecency and / or indecent exposure to a minor, you'd think a pimp would stop taking orders for that address? I mean it only takes loving a pizza delivery guy over once or twice to get your house blacklisted.

Omaha is a city of half a million. I'm gonna guess there's more than one group of working ladies in the town. He finds a sex worker online, arranges for her to show up at an address, and asks that she strip down before ringing the doorbell. Rinse, repeat until arrested.

Paywave/paypass transactions aren't a thing there I guess?

What's weird is that often in the US their POS systems accept paywave perfectly, but no-one knows and even the staff are ignorant of the fact. You have to work hard to convince a shopowner to just wave your card over their terminal and they act like it's the most amazing thing ever when it works. (Well, that's how it went when I was there 18 months ago.)

My Chase card had contactless payments and it worked at a few places (mostly McDonalds) but it wasn't very popular and eventually my replacement cards lacked the capability.

Then Apple "invented" ApplePay and that's what everyone thinks of when they talk about contactless now.

Found this beautiful game related schadenfreude:

quote:

Blizzcon had an hour-long event called ‘Overwatch: What’s in the loot box?’ that was only available to virtual ticket holders and people attending live, so they’d have to specifically go to that event instead of the super-hyped USA vs South Korea match.

A bunch of people went there and got virtual tickets thinking that it’d be, at the very least, a reveal of something new that was coming to Overwatch loot boxes, if not actually getting something cool and exclusive for attending.

Turns out that
- There was supposed to be a giant loot box on stage, but it didn’t make it through customs, so the stage was completely empty aside from the panellists
- The panellists were three YouTubers guessing for almost an hour straight as to what was in loot box prop that didn’t exist
- For the big reveal, after an hour of time-wasting, another YouTuber walked on stage and was like “uhhhh yeah it was supposed to be me in the box, haha, i was going to be in a costume but i didn’t do that, anyway that’s it, thanks for coming guys”

Even though you could only see the front couple of rows on the stream, you could still see people walking straight out before the event even wrapped up, after realising it was one of the biggest convention trainwrecks since Dashcon.

I love the awkwardness of the gif :allears:

According to google, their headquarters is in Irvine. And the convention is in Anaheim, at most an hour away.

Why did they have to send a box through customs? Couldn't they have gotten anyone in the sixth largest economy to build and move it locally?

How dare we feature an actor who once hit on a child! Please enjoy this wholesome show, Riverdale, instead, where Archie is loving his highschool teacher in a car.

Fair enough, although in Riverdale it's not portrayed in a positive light and IIRC as soon as it's found out (which is, like, episode 2 maybe?) Ms. Grundy is run out of town. (That said, I don't disagree that it's a pretty hosed-up image to use in the promo "poster".)

There must be all sorts of precedent. Actors (or other front-and-centre credited people, like executive producers or directors) who were accused/convicted of various crimes after a show or movie was released. That would presumably affect the commercial success of the show, but wouldn't be a reason to remove that criminal's name from the credits. Hollywood has been sleazy for a hundred years, there must be an entire database of murderers, robbers, thieves, rapists (OK, most would have been covered up, sure, but not all), etc. etc. who also had prominent roles.

I see the Paywave symbol at checkouts more often than not, but I've never actually seen it used or been issued a card that supports it.

What's so great about it? I don't really see the point unless you are using your card hundreds of times every day so that wearing out the contacts is an actual possibility.
