In Mario Odyssey the bird part of Darker Side keeps kicking my rear end. It's really loving aggrivatingly because it takes really long to get there, the sequence before suuuuuuuuccccccckkkkkks and because there's no other set up like it elsewhere in the game, I can't really practice it. Part of me just doesn't want to bother but this level isn't really that hard and I've beaten much worse in other Mario games and I just need to get through this.

I got stuck on this same part but you can do it, that's practically the end of the level

Try and peck the top of the swings. If you can land at the top of the swings then when you get to the triple swing part, you can skip the last two and go straight to the end. Way easier than trying to land a jump on the middle swing.

Also apparently if you use motion controls with the bird it jumps way higher? Didn't know that when I did it but maybe you don't even need to be at the top to skip the last swing section with them.

Boo would lend itself pretty well to a stealth game, but I think it would be way more puzzle-y then something like MGS.

You can do most of the motion control boost moves by spinning the analog stick too. that's a general hot tip for anybody

Every damned time for me too, it's like magic

I did some of the postgame, 327 moons total so far. Then I briefly turned on BotW, started a new file, and tried to do a Mario longjump off of the first cliff out of instinct

The merio game has infected me :saddowns:

Having tried Fortnight's BR mode now, it's actually impressive how much it copies from PUBG, but I don't think it's actionable. And at least the game doesn't look like hot garbage.

Took all day today to burn through to Ending B in Nier Automata. All I can say is: 1. I really appreciate shmups/bullet hell games now and 2. holy poo poo

I can really see this taking GOTY in a very strong year for games, holy hell is that one of the most unique and inventive games I've played in a long time.

Cleaned up the last few moons and now I have pretty much everything (not gonna go grinding for coins because I'd rather my last memories of this game to be good ones). Still not sure it's my favorite Mario but the highs of the game are the best moments in the series to say the least. The most easy choice for GotY that can be in a strong year (though I still might give it to A Night in the Woods because something about the game clicked with me like games rarely do).

Also Skeleton Mario wearing a space helmet is now my canon Mario

This is usually on purpose and it's arguably a pretty good thing, because having to play as a character you hate is the worst. Less boring characters are more likely to be unlikable to someone

I'd much rather play as a character I hate than one I feel nothing about- at least the character I hate is getting some kind of reaction out of me. Blandness is the worst.

Snooze Cruise
Feb 16, 2013

hey look,
a post
This is a bit of a tangent, but I never really get hating characters, in like any piece of media, besides like legitimately poorly written or pointlessly offensive characters. Like the extreme vitriol people have towards like lets say a Game of Throne character always kinda bothers me and makes me uncomfortable. Like I get it, its fictional so I guess for most people its like "this doesn't matter, so I can let my feelings flow" but for me its always been like "oh this character has traits that would annoyed me in real life, but hey I get to actually enjoy them in fiction".

The only video game character I hate that I can think of is Waylon from Advance Wars, and even then like I have a certain amount of love for him because of just how much emotion he reacts from me.

But yeah, I rather take a character with some sort of personality than just a bland girl/boy, even if they are abrasive. Hell Alpha Protocol proves you can create a MC that allows player projection while still making them an intriguing person with a bit of personality.

The reason why all lootboxes contain poo poo is so they can say "but you see, it's not gambling, you never lose, you always win something", and not be taxed and regulated as casinos.

It really is the most exploitative poo poo possible.

I think one thing that contributes heavily to the feel good vibe of Odyssey, and all Mario games, is how much fun Mario is having. Sure to him its a serious quest to rescue the Princess but he still has a sense of wonder and passion. He's having a good time so of course you are gonna too!

The best part of Journey's End is saying goodbye to the Sphynx though. That dude's my guy.
