Would some of those sealed DC court cases be from the Navy contractor investigation or would those be filed in somewhere like Maryland or whatever civilian jurisdiction on/in the Pacific?

I mean if he's the Saudi equivalent of Pope Francis as far as change/reform goes that would be good but the whole "turn a hotel into a prison for other members of the vest royal family, possibly kill several in an ostensibly deniable plane crash near the Yemeni border" thing suggests he's going to just be a totalitarian despot with "modern reform" window dressing.

The admirals will probably be handled via court martial. You're not going to have a bunch of sealed military cases on a trial level federal bench.

Yeah, but if he's mostly oppressing the Royal Family, the Clerics, and the Religious polie right now, well I'm on board with the Chinese Enlightened Despot method. Also I doubt he's being dishonest about the economic end of reforms.

The Saudis need to liberalize and diversify their economy but don't kid yourselves into thinking the Wahhabis will get put against the wall. The government is getting even more authoritarian than usual and we know what gun that brings.

It's either change now or play Marie Antoinette. They are spending too much fighting in Yemen and at home supporting entitlements to keep the population complacent. Oil is not going to return to triple digits either. I think he also realizes that Wahhabism is not ideal and allowing a different center of power to remain unchallenged in the clerics is extremely dangerous.

McCarthy wouldn't be hunting down the Russian ties in this administration and making grandstanding speeches, he'd be the rear end in a top hat frantically trying to bury everything because it'd be the way to get picked up in a more prestigious office if everything blew over. The only reason McCarthy got censured and brought down was because he was the 1950's version of Ted Cruz and thankfully, the 1950's Senate wasn't as purestrain partisan batshit as it is today and actually did something about it. Put him in today's society and he'd be indistinguishable from the rest of the new breed of Republicans like Cruz, Gowdy, Cotton, et al.
